The previous bosses got as close as they could and tried to go in that direction. With the f8x they are going in the direction of mpg and profit margins and other things like that.

None of the modern M cars even remotely resembled a street legal race car. So I guess the previous bosses didn't really get that close after all.

By the way, profit margins and cost cutting have always been an important factor in any car, and yes, that includes M cars. I think it's quite obvious how even the E92 M3 was built to a price point and with a certain budget in mind.

That being said, I agree about the fuel economy emphasis in modern M cars. But then again, which manufacturer is not targetting better mpg? Even friggin Formula 1 of all people is now all about saving fuel.

You know what's funny about this 3M/4M or M335/M435...it'll smoke your 80% original part M3 in every possible performance category there is.

Well duh it's 7 years newer technology but it will look ugly and sound like crap while smoking the e9x.

So now that BMW has sold out...mass exodus to Porsche who has stayed true to their roots? Last time I checked...you didn't have to look too hard to find a VW stamp under the hood of a PORSCHE Cayenne. At least under the hood of an X5 its all BMW.

Last time I checked...the purist GT3 now ONLY comes in PDK. No manual. And the electronic aids and traction control are better than ever to save people from that inevitable tree or concrete barrier. And all of these other god awful cars/SUVs they make. The Macan? That 4 door sedan that looks like an Infiniti J30 from the 90s? But Porsche...owned by VW...is still the true driver's car that has stayed true to its roots...although its safer than ever to save those from the very un-Porsche like trailing throttle oversteer. Isn't that what made a Porsche so exciting to drive? IIRC, it was that trait that really separated the men...the real drivers...from the mere posers who ended up in a ditch.

The only car company that I really think is staying true to its roots is Lotus. But we all see how well they are doing. So I do agree that the M Division has changed in a manner not favorable to old school enthusiasts...but so has Porsche. But the M division built homologation specials by hand. But you could say the M division really sold out when the first machine built E39 M5 rolled off the assembly line...because weren't all "real" M5 hand built? I would even argue that the E9X M3 is a VERY FAR departure from what the M division was many years ago but we all still bought it. If you want to bitch about the new cars and why BMW isn't making another M3 with the same S65 engine...just keep your old one.

But seriously, both 2007 and they got 1.4s difference between the coupe and sedan?

its sad so many people pull the its faster card. its like all that people care about is going faster. sure thats a big part of it . But before we known all cars will have the same style engines and all look kind of the same. But they are faster.......

I would rather have a S/C E92 than a STOCK OR MODDED F80. Cant wait tell people start putting exhausts on these M4s and they turn into ricey cars.

Beats me but the numbers are there, doesn't surprise me they can be 2 seconds off. Look at the list some cars are all over the place but why crucify the best time it did because of a worse time. It could be driver, weather, tires so many things. It's not like the M4 did it in the rain. It had ceramic breaks and the new PSS. My point is the current and new cars so far is a wash at that specific track.
Edit: I believe this 4 door has better times at Tsukuba and also Top Gear than the 2 door. Maybe DCT equipped vs non? I know it was mentioned by Tsuchiya from Best Motoring that they felt the 4 door felt more balanced. But that's another story I don't want to get into.

Correct.
Not sure about the Top Gear times, but at Tsukuba it was 6MT vs 6MT.
Since you mentioned:

While I really dont like the sound clips I am hearing, I havent actually heard one live yet, but if they made an F81, I would have E90 loyalty issues.

Regarding exhaust...time will tell. One thing is for sure...stock for stock upon initial release of both E9X and F8X, E9X sounded way better. I heard F8X in person and it sounded weak on start up. It's foregone conclusion that I will be installing some aftermarket exhaust. Now, let's not talk about fart pipes just yet, I think Evolve released an exhaust for BMW four-bangers which sounded very good relatively speaking.

When you listen to a stock exhaust, you can get a hint of what is to come. I honestly feel the F80 sounds very ricey stock. And a exhaust is only going to make the rice sound louder. I am not one of those guys who just wants a fast car, i need to overall fall in love with it. The performance of the M4 is there, but i do not want a rice rocket car.

this is really the number one thing the E9x cars have over the F80. sound

Most people don't really care that much about the exhaust sound though. The small sample of owners that visit this website do care for the most part but as a whole I would say performance metrics are more important.

On the side note...would you call E46 a rice rocket?
