Why would you want to do that?

About $70k. Haha just messing. I never heard someone wanting to do that. It sounds difficult and expensive IMO. I hope u didn't start a DCT/MT flame war!

because it started out as my daily driver and needed dct for jakarta traffic. now its basically my track toy and i barely ever use it to go work or out. car is only used for high speed runs and track time.
im considering going vt-3 as well so manual would be a lot better for that too.. plus dct is so frikking boring... I've always loved manual better and i feel like i have better control on a manual car. but mostly its because i hate automatic/ dct with a passion.. I'm guessing around 15k?

Prob not worth the expense. DLSJ5 is running a VT3 setup on a DCT, he just goes thru clutches a little faster than norm, so go for it.

More cost effective to trade cars for a manual. However, I think you are quite mistaken in the perception that you have more control with a manual. If the DCT is boring, then I think you are not using it effectively...

I wish I would have gotten the DCT. But in your case OP, I think best to trade for a 6MT M3 and then start the mods. Probebly save you alot of money and time/effert and I doubt it would ever realy be the same.
I can't imagine it being cost effective to convert. Probebly easier to convert from a 6MT to a DCT (just guessin) because you would have to add a clutch pedal and all the supporting linkage/brackets, etc. But then again a DCT tranny is like $7,000 last I saw and the modding would probebly be another few thousand minimum, plus software update to run it. eithe way, not worth the cost. Good luck! |

DCT being boring has to do with the fact that there is no clutch pedal and no stick shift for you to physically use and coordinate the action of. It is simply about how much physical interplay there is between you and your car, not the cars performance and response. The latter is clearly better with DCT.

in a dct it just doesnt work.. you can get up to the point of neutral but then when you want to get it back into first you gotta step on the brake pedal first. another use is while drifting, you have more methods avalible to you. instead of just doing a Scandinavian flick you can tap the clutch before the corner instead. thats also usefull if for example you come into the corner too fast and ur understeering out. dct is boring because you dont make mistakes and at times (very rarely but still happens) the dct gets retarded and hesitates at shift. i like the fun of driving i dont care if im slower. i just really really miss heel toeing..

I would imagine it could be done and it would be pretty similar to doing an SMG -> 6MT swap on the e46 M3. With that being said, there is always a higher cost to the first person who wants to do something like this.

You'd be better off selling it and buying a different one. All other things constant, you'd only spend a few grand that way.

I think someone has swapped a 6-speed tranny for an SMG transmission (or the other way around) in an E46. If you find that thread (probably on M3forum.net) it may give you an idea of what is involved. I would hate to be the first to do it on the E9X platform because of all the related coding you'll have to do (and determine what to do). Perhaps if you can find a totaled stick M3 and get all of the ECU's out of that it may prove easier (although the VIN in the modules won't match your key). A difficult project indeed.

You are looking at a trans and associated hardware such as the shifter, console piece etc. plus installation and programing. Getting a junkyard trans in Indonesia may not exactly be easy? What about the shrapnel parts? Do you have someone who can handle reprogramming the car there if it isn't possible to get a dongle and have it emailed in? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong here but I seem to recall reading a new DCT is 12k and with the other costs I'm thinking it wouldn't be too surprising to me if I were to hear the cost went toward 20k.
Is the cost of trading in Indonesia going to exceed that? |

Shouldn't be too bad.. I would think it would be more trouble to go from 6MT to DCT. The biggest problem with going to 6MT is probably installing all of the stuff for the clutch pedal linkages, etc..
If you wind up doing the conversion, I can code it for you no problem, no doubt about that
