Yes, I think this is true. Plus the SC only adds more weight in the least desired areas.

Man that ZR1 is fast!!! There were a few straights where he almost plowed into the back of the Lambo!

The Cobra in question I believe is equipped with a 6.2L vette engine kicking out around 430hp, so there is a lot more than just light weight helping win that race, it's actually packing a bit of muscle. I'm unsure as to whether it uses a modern chassis and suspension but if it did I would pick this over any other supercar made today. It is the ultimate Anglo-American muscle car. |

Uh, I'd still rather have a ZR1 with A/C, navigation, good stereo, modern interior, etc....

It's one of the very rare occasions for me where looks and image far outweigh outright ability, I know the ZR1 would destroy it on any track but the Cobra is a thing of beauty that very few cars can equal and the Vette definitely isn't one of them.

Autocar is BY FAR, one of the worst car review ezines on the internet, and has a serious history of bias against American cars in general. They raced a GT2 and ZR1 and were only able to get 12.4 in the 1/4 with the ZR1. That should show you how much they suck.

Maybe. I think "Car" is decent for a British car e-zine, at least they were able to get the "factory" times with the ZR1.
But when it comes to 1/4 times, and 0-60, 0-100, I try to stick with Motortrend since they usually have "good" drivers that can beat the factory spec times regularly. AutoCar is outrageously bad though.

Here's what Motortrend was able to get in the 1/4:
Nissan GTR - 11.6 @ 120.0mph Porsche GT2 - 11.4 @ 127.9mph Ferrari 599 - 11.3 @ 126.4mph C6 ZR1 - 11.2 @ 130.5mph The ZR1 is also the lightest car of the group at 3324lbs (it weighs less than a 328i !!!).

^^^GT-R is highly overmatched here and yet did very respectably. Odd that I would still rather have an M3 that is MUCH slower.....

Considering they hold the record for the 0-100 and back to zero for the last several years I think that blows your comment right out of the water. The difference between UK and US reviews is that over here all tests are conducted on normal surfaces and not a dragstrip, we also don't run our test from 5-60mph but from a complete stand still. All of these differences will give the opinion to the untrained eye that over here we stuck. Another thing worth remembering is that unlike the US our temperature seldon gets above 25 degrees and more tests between Oct ~ April will range from 5 ~ 20 degree at best, all of which will affect the launch. |
