I can't even remember what the criteria are for being able to use 3D. It has to be at a certain zoom level?

On the map screen, press the option button then go to settings to enable 3D perspective. If it is grayed out, you will need to do a restore or upgrade your map to make the feature available again.

Thanks. I'll check it out. But doesn't the 3D perspective only activate at a certain level of zoom?

I checked, and I do not have the ability to select Satellite perspective or 3D from the Nav options. However, I don't think this has anything to do with the Nav upgrade. The user manual specifically states these features are active when and where available. I just tested within a couple of miles of my house, and it doesn't surprise me that there is no satellite/3D view. I think I only ever got to use this mode once, and I don't even recall where it was.

The 2011ii update does not require FSC via the DVD slot for sure, the 2012 update will be allowed as well as long as you do not try 2011ii first.

It seems to me that your update missed some data partitions somehow. This is not unusual if the update was interrupted/defective. |

I neglected to verify checksums, but I downloaded as ISO. Those don't really get corrupted, in my experience. I might try again on Friday, but worse case scenario I just take it to the dealer and have them fix. I honestly don't think I've ever had either option available since I came back from ED. I think it makes more sense that the update from European to US maps missed something with satellite perspective, than the 10 second activity of plugging in a USB drive to the glove box.

Just to be clear, the options are there, just grayed out/not selectable.
I'll just have the dealer look and hopefully load up 2012 for free when I take it in for an inspection in December. Off topic, but are dealers changing oil after 12 months, even if you don't hit the mileage requirements? |

I have been doing the upgrade on and off since yesterday (when ive been driving) and am now on Disc 3 (84%) and I noticed an hour ago when I got in my car for a quick second and started it that it said "the update is older than what is currently on the car, are you sure you want to continue the update" and i said yes and it made me put in disc 1 then disc 2 then disc 3 and continued from the 84%...I will finish the last 16% later today on the drive home from work but why would it say about the older update? I checked the checksums of all 3 ISO's and they are perfect....

I finally got my update to work so I thought I'd share my experience.
1. Downloaded the files and copied and pasted the config file and folder onto 3 seperate thumb drives. 2 were the same brand, the 3rd was different. Each was formatted for FAT32 2. Inserted thumbdrives into the glove compartment, but nothing happened. I reverified the MD5 checksum and it was good. Decided to try downloading on my PC computer instead, and again reformated to FAT32 via my PC computer. Still nothing. 3. Figuring it was my glovebox USB, I tried installing music and it uploaded into the car fine using one of the original thumb drive. So the problem wasn't the Thumbdrives or the USB port. 4. A fellow member, Osteome, was nice enough to mail me a verified copy of the files on DVD. I tried disk 1, nothing. Disk 2, nothing. But when I inserted disk 3, it asked if I had an FSC code and if I wanted to update. I clicked yes, but then it would ask for disk 1. Inserted disk 1, and again nothing would happen. The message "Searching for disk 1" remained on the screen forever with nothing happening. 5. I decided to try burn it myself using my Mac. I buy some DVD+DL online and burn the original files I had originally copied onto my thumb drive. 6. It finally works. It asks if I want to install, and asks for my FSC code. The disks took over 2 hours, but I did it over several days. It resumes automatically from where you left off. Some weird things did happen during the install. It would occasionally stop saying the file was damaged. I just ejected the disk, and reinserted it and it would continue fine. Happen about 5 times. Not sure why the thumbdrives didn't work. Not sure why the disks from Osteome didn't work either. On the downside with the upgrade, it seems my Nav is slower. Takes a longer time to change zoom levels.

Glad to hear that it worked out. I do believe that my USB in the glovebox is dead, but the discs worked for me. It is hollow re-assurance to hear that I was not the only one having some issues. I will have to get the dealer to check that out at the next service. Were you able to verify that the DVDs were good? There is another person, recently PCSed from Germany, that could use a set. I have to grab some more blanks, but if the set did was verified as being OK.....

As for the glovebox, see if it'll upload music.

Another happy customers of Sergej *****************! Best prices by far, and took less than an hour for the code.
Thanks! |

I did this update last month. Don't see any difference in the map, can't really see any buildings in 3D.
