Car and Driver Review of 2011 IS-F

Nice review of the revamped version. I'm still not crazy about it's looks, but they made some great improvments in this car.

The most great is tuned suspension- The retuned electric steering feels more natural, more like traditional hydraulically boosted steering. Feels

Seems like they completely overhauled the suspension.. and now it's as fast as the M3 coupe at VIR. Nice.

I prefer the looks of the IS350 though.

If for real - it's simple. Double control arms(made of what) connected how. Swaybar position and thickness etc. That is something.... subframe mounts..... BUt Usually tuned suspension(upgrade) from factory is just stiffer springs and shocks. And nothing more

So you can just go for coils and forget it. Not shure about ZCP m3 suspension

How does the ride of the IS-F compare to the M3?

Still can't get over that ridiculous exhaust outlet design.

I think they did a pretty good job listening on the complaints people had. Would never buy one but it does have lots of promise for the next generation.

I wish they tested a 4 door ZCP-DCT on VIR the same day, instead of a two door none ZCP on 19's with comp tires from a year ago as a basis for comparison. I'd still give the edge to the M3, even with the torque disadvantage.

+1

Competition amongst brands is good thing. This just means that BMW has to deliver with the next M3, and I am sure they will!

Me too. However, torque is nearly irrelevant compared to hp...

I hate to be the one to continually break the news but it is absolutely TRUE. Been discussed to death here on the forum.

My wife has an IS350 so I like the IS-f a lot. It's a shame they didn't drop those fake exhaust tips and do some conventional looking exhaust. It could look great.

I always laugh at the exhaust comments....considering the pimple on the hood of the M3....I mean "power dome" or the "fake" side vents on the M3. At least the quad tips actually have a functional purpose.

There is no "wrong" choice in this class. Silly nitpicky things like these don't really matter at the end of the day.

Actually, the power dome is necessary.

C/D did a comparison between a 2011 Audi RS5, 2011 DCT M3, and 2011 Cadillac CTS-V and claim a 0-60 in 3.9 seconds for the M3

Torque is irrelevant on a track but more important than horsepower in everyday driving.

Sweet, the IS-F is a sweet car, I love seeing cars like this instead of all that hybrid crap that is all the rage.
