Smile can you beat a 997 PDK 385hp?

I know they are total different animal.
I am assuming the 997.2 PDK C2S/C4S is faster or a very close match.
than the M3 M DCT due to power to weight ratio.
oh, i'm talking about stock vs stock.

The Porsche is actually quite a bit faster than the M3, especially with PDK.

Yep, Porsche is faster, period. Having said that, it should be for the ~$50k premium price wise where I live.

Price premium is closer to $35K in Canada.

Base price for an M3 coupe is $71,600 + $3,900 for DCT = $75,500

Base price for a 911 C2S is $104,900 + $4,660 for PDK = $109,560

$109,560 - $75,500 = $34,060.

Does it seem like I have been looking at Porsche pricing lately

By the way Heath, I figured I do the math for you because I am sure you don't get to do much math with your line of work

There is not a great difference between the two...the 997.2 has an edge but in real world driving its not that noticeable.

I stand corrected...

Only one point I will mention... if you actually option out each car the same (idrive, active suspension, LSD, leather sport seats with memory, etc) the gap gets just a little bigger. Porsche comes with zippo options and charges a ton for them.

On the track I am always faster with my M3 because of the drivers. The standard 911 is a lawyer's Porsche. Good drivers have GT3's ;-)

Don't be so jealous! Well, until someone gives me a car to race with, it's better to be able to drive home what you brought. I've seen too many exotic crashed cars at the Nurburgring ... none of which were chasing a checkered flag. Ultimately the new GTS is the non-turbo 911 to have. Understated and very capable. Most the GT3s I see are 996s, and normal 997Ss are quicker.

Garage List
997.2 "S" with PDK will annihilate an M3, annihilate. On the track, off the track, off-road, etc.

Regular non-S 997.2 is a fair match with an M3, I believe they're very close and the 997.2 pulls ahead due after 80-100 or so to aerodynamics, weight, top speed, etc.

They're different cars

A Porsche is great to drive... but also a PITA to drive as well

That's the base 911 in this comparo, not the 911S being discussed here. Likely a very different outcome had the Porsche been a 997.2S.

I actually think it's just as good to drive than the m3. Other than the boot size, I don't see a difference in the drive.

At Virginia raceway from Fastest Laps.com:

31. BMW M3 (E92) 3:05.40 '07 420 / 1619
32. Lexus IS F 3:05.40 '07 423 / 1732 C&D
33. Porsche 997 Turbo 3:05.80 '06 480 / 1585 Car and Driver
34. Porsche 997 Carrera S (2008 facelift) 3:05.80 '08 385 / 1425 Car and Driver
35. Porsche Cayman S(facelift) PDK 3:05.80 '08 320 / 1375 Car and Driver

I believe the M3 was optioned with DCT, while the Porsche was a manual.

Pretty close though, not even in the "annihilation" category, especially since the M3 is on top.

Overall though, yes, the Porsche 911S PDK is faster, but not by a lot, the track will make a difference as will the drivers.

My father in law and my buddy both have 997.2 C2S with PDK. We have done plenty of pulls, and they pull on me pretty easily each time.
Our car weighs about 400lbs more I believe. The P cars are damn quick.

I'd rather have M3 if it's a 911S we're talking about. If we're talking GT3 and up, then P car all the way.

It is true that an optioned out 911 can nearly double the base price but you can do as few options as you want. The nice thing about Porsche is they offer you options that even BMW Individual wouldn't consider. That is the thing though, a 911 and an M3 are kinda different cars where price, purpose, and the target customer is concerned. It is just lucky for us M3 owners that our current M3 is extremely close to a 911 C2 in performance and not too far behind a 911 C2S.

If you want a purpose built sports car get a Porsche but if you want a car that do the daily driving duties and yet go to the track on the weekend get an M3. If you have a Porsche you need to own a second vehicle, if you have an M3 it can be your only vehicle.

Nicely said, I don't know it's pretty embarrass to swap cars now.

2012 C63 MCT with very nice interior, new headlight, rear lights, etc ( summer )
2011 M3 MDCT very nice car but getting smoked by 997.2S, slower than C63 on straight lines ( MDCT M3 came out in 2008, it's getting old. New gen 3er is coming out end of 2011 )
2012 991 I bet the 991 S will have 400hp+ newer everything, Will be faster than 997S in every way

Basically, I want a dual clutch car. But 997S PDK now seems not very wise as I will see 991S end of this year. Also the new C63 will be very fast with MCT and very nice new interior. But the chassis still the same. 2011 M3 MDCT it is nice car and we won't see a new M3 within this two years but it will get smoke by a 997S PDK. Man........

Current ride:
2007 997 Turbo Stick ( i am kinda tired driving a stick )
2011 C63 sedan ( Fast, but stupid tranny, chassis is OKAY, M3 is better )

Looks like I have to STFU and be happy with what I got right now.
