Mobil 1 rebate up to $15, expires May 31.
Ripped from SD:
Mobil1 upto 15$ rabate valid till May 31st 2016 Mobil1 upto 15$ rabate valid till May 31st 2016 $15 rebate with purchase of five quarts of Mobil 1™ synthetic motor oil and a Mobil 1™ Extended Performance Oil Filter $12 rebate with purchase of five quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil $10 rebate with purchase of five quarts of Mobil Super™ Synthetic motor oil $7 rebate with purchase of five quarts of any Mobil Super™ motor oil Valid from March 1st to May 31st https://mobiloil.com/en/promotion/mo...nd-mobil-super Rebate Form: https://apfco.net/secure/R8235W/Home/Intro Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/search/?query...ype=10&veh=aff Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss...sy%2Caps%2C187 Then there's this: ATTN BMW/EURO CAR DRIVERS Mobil 1 recently changed the formulation of the 0w40 European Car Formula and the new one is NOT BMW LL-01 approved. It should most likely be fine if you change it more often than recommended, but if you stick with the BMW recommended oil change intervals of ~15k mi, then it's best to get LL-01 approved oil. A handful of other approvals/certifications for other manufacturers are also gone in the new version. You can identify the new version be a small "FS" on the front label and text containing BMW will be missing from the front and back of the bottle. Your local store may or may not still have the old stock. Comment about BMW/EURO CAR DRIVERS may not be true http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/...stcount=37 ^^^ Mobil has definitely changed the formulation, as the new oil is called M1 FS 0w-40 instead of M1 0w-40. The new oil uses a PAO and GTL (gas-to-liquid) base oil, whereas the old one used a PAO and Visom (Group III) base oil. A specification like LL-01 can't be changed and still keep the same number. They can introduce new ones, which BMW has, but BMW LL-01 will always be the same LL-01. The new reformulated oil doesn't meet LL-01 for whatever reason. If you use the find the right oil feature on the Mobil website, the 0w-40 no longer shows up. |

I was just coming here to post the deal. I hadnt seen anything on the formulation change so thank you very much for that info. I just purchased some of the new FS formula from walmart without even looking at the label. Luckily I've only put half a quart in to top off my oil change. I still only plan to run it for 5k miles but I'm not sure I'll do that with the new FS.

Before we write off the new FS 0w40, you guys need to understand it still has certs from MB, VW, and Porsche. Lots of 2016+ new BMWs now call for 0W20 anyways.
The FS version most likely means "full saps", and it does contain more anti wear additive like boron and phosphorus than the older version. GasToLiquid base stock also means a more stable oil when put under stress. The FS version also has a stronger TBN, which means even longer drain period if you so wish. |

NAPA also currently running their discount on M1 5w50; perfect timing if you've been thinking about giving it a try in light of the new lower HTHS GTL 0w40 formulation

Ugh, except the 5w50 has some OLD approvals (LOL @ MB 229.1). Not the most modern formula, but I suppose it would do in a pinch. Maybe add a bottle or two to the 0w40 to thicken it a bit.

vs Very similar add packs on paper with the 5w50 looking a little more aggressive on the AW pack I've run it as a blend with M1 0w40 for my past 3 OCIs and I think for my summer OCI I'm going to run straight 5w50 and see how I like it. |

The 5w50 is not API SN. It's API SM. I'm probably making a bigger deal out of it than necessary, but it is still worth noting.

Looks like FS X2 5w50 replaced the old one dparm....now it looks stout like the new FS 0w40.
This can be a real alternative to 10w60 TWS for those that dislike "thin" oil like 0w40. |

Huh, I stand corrected. The above linked TDS seems to be the old one.
Still seems weird they wouldn't have MB 229.5 or 229.51 approvals.
