Stoptech BBK Review

Gents,
Big thanks to Howard at Stoptech for providing a great deal on this big brake kit for my SEMA build! I wanted to take some time to talk about how awesome these brakes are!

The Brakes: ST-60 front ST-40 rear with drilled rotor upgrade and Ferrari Yellow caliper paint.

The install: I did it myself! The kit comes with uber detailed instructions and I was able to do it all on my own with basic tools and a couple jackstands. The only part I had to have a helper for was the brake bleeding at which point I had my buddy come over to be my brake pumper. Once the kit was installed and bled it was break in time. The instructions also come with a section on how to properly seed the rotors and pads which is a lot of fun because its a series of 60-10 max performance braking sessions.

The performance: The stock brakes are pretty grippy but after half a lap around Nurburgring I was feeling the fade which is common with the OEM setup. The feel with the stoptechs is a bit different, the way I would describe it would be that the stock brakes feel really grippy with little pressure then kind of taper off the grip to peddle pressure ratio as you press harder where the stoptechs give you the same amount of grip early on but the grip to peddle pressure ratio remains constant, meaning for daily driving it feels about the same but you can really feel the difference if you are stomping on the brakes. I have yet to get these out to the track but I'm told the main selling point is the fact that they will not fade nearly as much as the stock brakes under heavy use.

All-in-all I'm very pleased with the appearance of the package as well as my initial impressions of the performance but Ill have more to say after a PDE or speed district track day.

yep they are very streetable, Im not locking them up with a tap of the brake peddle or anything. They are civil when you are daily driving but beasts when you need them to be!

20", but the GTS ZCPs will fit as well

Too bad you haven't had other bbks to compare them to. Any reason you went with drilled instead if slotted?

Not sure why the OP picked drilled but IMHO they look way better thank slotted! I'm sure the slotted are better for professional track use, but for the weekend track driver, they are fine.

I'm sure there are members who have had several kits who may be able to chime in. I went with the drilled rotors because A. I thought it looked better and B. The drilled holes go to the inner vent channels of the rotors giving them a little better cooling properties than the slotted rotors.

Cool...good write up with the Stoptechs! I have always used AP Racing bbks on my past vehicles and they were awesome...not sure if AP Racing makes a kit for the E9x M3.

You'll find that the car is far more stable under threshold braking with the BBK at the track...its a massive improvement! And way easier to trail brake which is inline with your street impressions, less grabby.

Although I will say that I do regret getting the 380s...rather have the 355s so I can run APEX ARC8 17s and get cheaper track tires and more brake pad choices.

No the GTS rims will go on for track days, planning on wrapping them with p-zero neros as well.

After a few months of driving with the BBK I have really fallen in love with the responsiveness, grip and appearance of these stop techs! I would highly recommend them to everyone who is thinking about the investment!

What pads are you running?
If its the Streetsport pads, you just need to get a good layer on the rotors to get great initial bite.

Yes they are street pads, I did the initial break-in but haven't used them heavily since, should I try to get them heated up again?

They have several color options for the ST series kits, Ferrari Yellow was an upgrade that they offered. The color has nothing to do with performance.

Oh are you talking about rotor color after heavy use? Mine are yet to become discolored, maybe a light blue tint. In the extensive instructions I received with the kit there is talk about the effects of high use will effect performance and discoloration of the metal was one of the indicators.
