At work bored, let's compare both my cars
So, I picked up a 2011 loaded DCT competition E92 M3 two weeks ago in LMB. Since then, I've got a catless X pipe, a rear exhaust (new one coming soon), a Turner tune, new wheels and MPSS tires and more stuff coming.
The E92 M3 has had a special place in my heart for the past 8 years - I went with my father (who had owned an E36 M3, and an E46 M3 when I was younger) to go on a test drive in the E92 and we both instantly fell in love. Since then, I couldn't stop thinking about the car. He didn't end up purchasing one because he wanted just one AWD car (drives an RS5 now). I absolutely LOVE this thing. I can't explain how incredible this car is. From the awe-inspiring stock suspension (which barely rolls), to the perfect steering, to the precious noise at 8500RPM, to the fastest shifting DCT I've ever driven, to the comfort of the car I cannot find flaw (The seatbelt extenders and cup holders are the only ones!!). My other car is a 2014 Nissan GT-R Black Edition. As soon as I bought it I turned it into a Full Bolt on E85 car. Will make 600-650 on a Jet and goes like MAD. It accelerates faster than my old 730WHP built Coyote Mustang. Unreal. I also installed a set of high-end Moton Clubsport coilovers and it transformed the car. I throw the car into turns at such ridiculous speeds (the M3 could NOT do) and it maintains composure and the tires have never scrubbed ONCE. I have not found this thing's limit. I throw it around a hard turn here at 55 and my head starts to hurt from the Gs. The acceleration is vicious and never ending. However, I enjoy the M3 more. It just makes you feel special - it's more fun than the GTR. I may be taking corners far faster in the GTR, but my smile is far wider in the M3. The feeling the car has when you turn the wheel is nothing short of a miracle. It's ungodly, and the car feels so balanced and coordinated no matter what you do. When you hit that hairy edge of a limit it never feels so - it always feels like the car has more to give. I think this is because of the balance of the car, the nose never feels like an Audi or a heavy Mercedes. The acceleration is great for how much power the car makes - the transmission is what accentuates this. The proximity of gears 4-7 is very well placed to make the most of the power in the higher band. The "soul" of the car is the best I've ever driven (for what the car is). My GTR is still a far faster experience and sometimes offers a bit more "thrill" and speed, but the driving experience of the M3 is top notch. /Rant |

Great write-up. It seems fairly frequent that members here switch over to the GTR (or were considering an E9x and made the stretch to a GTR), so I'm always curious what people who have driven both think. The conclusion often seems to be that while the GTR is a monster in all senses, it lacks soul.

And where do you work that you can waste your employer's time comparing cars? Cars that are paid for with wages from your employer, who is trusting you to work.

I am on same boat w/OP finding myself driving and enjoying E92 M car. It's more civilized for one that V8 sound is so good to hear (my dreams are made of that sound).
Heck, last time I pulled GT-R out of garage was few months ago. Sure GT-R is faster and more exciting but my butt gets numb quickly (just like OP I own BE w/narrow Recaro seats). OK, I guess I am getting old. Love both cars. They are different and very special at same time.

I feel the same way, I sold my 09' full bolt on e85 GTR and picked up a 2011 e90 M3, wanted a chance to own what I consider one of the last true M cars, also previously owned the E60 M5 and E63 M6 both with smg, (which I didn't like for around town traffic, but otherwise awesome cars) the GTR was a monster of a vehicle and comfortable to daily drive. (for me at least) The problem I had with the GTR was that there wasn't much opportunity to fully use all that power, and when you could it was over too soon, also would of been nice is there was a 7th gear for distance driving and there was a bad drone, due to being straight piped at 65-75mph. Other issues I had with the GTR were minor being the interior felt cheap, and the audio "Bose" system was a joke compared to any of the sound systems BMW offered. The M3 on the other hand just feels more fun as since its less powerful you get to experience that acceleration more, and prolong the enjoyment, while at the same time being able to carry passengers. It may not be as performance oriented as the GTR in cornering or braking but I find it just as fun throwing it into corners. If I could of found an older E46 that would of been my dream car, but kinda hard to find one that hasn't been run to death or modded. The engine note of the GTR was loud and just epic, but I do prefer the refined sound of BMW naturally aspirated engines. Overall I do love my M3 over the GTR.

I can relate to you OP. I don't own a GT-R but drove one and rode in it a few times. Definitely one of the coolest cars in the market for the last 8 years and the acceleration is unreal (comparable to tesla), at the end of the day I'm perfectly happy with my M3. I can see the GT-R being a car that will get boring after a while and a lot of owners seem to sell them after a year or so. I've had my M3 for a year and 3 months now and it still feels as awesome as the day I drove it off the lot. In fact, the engine still amazes me to this day and I just love driving it.
There's just something about high revving NA cars that I enjoy. From my old s2000 to the e9x M3, they both have "soul" and makes the car so fun to drive. Turbo AWD cars in automatic might be fast but lack soul and get boring after a while. I'm hoping the M3 never gets boring as I plan to keep it for as long as possible.
