Given that BMW has already launched a next-gen iDrive (called NBT) even before adding CarPlay support, don't count on it. Even if they don't introduce an even newer hardware version for CarPlay, the NBT software won't be compatible with your CIC.

CarPlay also requires a touchscreen, which our displays don't have and aren't appropriately placed to use even if they did.

EDIT: Apparently touchscreen input is an option, not a requirement.
