Not quite. When you pair any device via Bluetooth, iDrive checks which functions the device supports over Bluetooth and allows you to select which ones you actually want to enable on that device: Phone, additional phone (difference detailed in the latest 6 Series manual), and Audio. Those settings are per-device, and you're not required to enable everything that the device supports if you don't care to use it. But if you enable Audio on a device and subsequently plug it into your dock/USB connector, the Audio option is unchecked automatically for that specific device. Then when you're done using the device plugged in, you just go back and re-enable it just for that device. But for example you could have your device plugged in and still use Bluetooth audio to pull music from a SEPARATE device at the same time.

Of course if you have no intention of using BT Audio ever on any device, just don't enable it when you make the initial pairing and you'll never have to worry about any of this. But I'd recommend using it, because as I mentioned above, I initially didn't bother with it but once I did just to experiment I became hooked.
