Fortunately they don't actually pop up. iDrive just shows the little envelope icon in the upper-right corner of your nav display (or top status bar if you're in a different view) and it's up to you go to your Messages to see it. And if you're going to check a text anyway, better via iDrive than whipping out your phone IMHO.
But yes, that's why I disabled emails -- plus I waste enough of my life dealing with email as it is and I don't want them poisoning the fun I have driving my car.
