^ Right, but the OP doesn't have iDrive. OP, I'm not sure whether the state of those settings outside of M Mode can be stored permanently; it may be that non-iDrive cars can only store preferences on those items for M Drive. Agreed the wording of the manual suggests otherwise, though. Hopefully other non-iDrive owners with 2011.5 cars (where M Drive became standard) can chime in.
