I would return the E93 M3, and sit tight for the F80. If you have an immediate tracking needs, sounds like your 335 will be sufficient, but if you need an M car for the track (not sure why), then you should still return the E93 and get a E92 or E90 M3, but this will cost you quite a bit if you're still going to the F80 in 2 years...
Regarding the M5, well is it really a track car? I have a E90 M3 and although I thought I would keep this car for 7-8 years, the F80 is too tempting. |

I would seriously wait for the new m3 to appear...
m5 is just to much and very much so useless in most cases. The 335 I know has way better gas mileage than the e93 so sell the e93, but if you like convertibles, keep the e93 and sell the 335 and wait for the turbo m3 to come out.

Option #2. Buy a E92 and then a F80 and keep them both. Get the 2013 E92. Wait to buy the F80 until 2015/2016.

Back in 1980 I had a 633csi, that car was about the same size as my M3 I think. I looked at the 5s and 6s but they're too big for me.

1. Buy your e93M
2. Trade your 335i when the new 2014 M3 comes out and built your ///M stable. 3. Keep your off road vehicle.

While the m5 is huge and feels like a boat, it still rapes the m3 around any track. So while in the past 4300 pounds around a track would be laughable, you add 620 hp (which dynos has shown that is what crank hp really is), a completely new and overly high tech suspension with aspects of a true race car (rear subframe bolted directly to the frame-no bushings etc), you have a car that can outperform the m3 in every single measure-straight line, track or anything.
So its one thing if you simply do not like the looks or the day to day ride, but not choosing it because it is not good on a track is simply false |

The x5m puts down respectable lap times as well. Does that make it a good track car?

Interesting comments, and considering your keeping the 335 which can be a great track car tuned. I'm biased because I own a F10 M5, and it's a hoot to drive along with sick speed tha will eat an M3. I hear so many posters talking about weight, and the last two M3's were called pigs which I disagree with! And the last M5 first launch people hated the car, and now it's gone it's loved.
Go with your "gut", and I owned an M3 now the M5 no comparison hands down! For the posters that say it's a pig I suggest you drive one, and not go by what you hear. It puts a smile on my face every time I start the engine, and it pulls like a mother. If you want a true track car less weight the new 911 is a monster, but if you want luxury and a sports car M5 is your weapon of choice. Good luck. |

After reading through everyone's comments, it has been interesting to see the different views on the M5, M3, and 335i. I think we can all agree that these BMWs are all fantastic in their own way.
This weekend I'm going to test drive an M5, so I should be able to make my decision based on that drive. I'm down to 2 options at this point, the M5 or a new E92 coupe with trading in the 335i in 2014/15 for the new M3. I'll keep you guys updated. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions! Frozen Brilliant White is hideous... defintiely get the Frozen Grey.
In all seriousness, e92 all the way.

How many people on this thread have driven both?
I own both. They are both awesome cars. M3 is definitely the better track car by a few whiskers but if you want a track car then there are even better examples; lotus... Yes the M5 will beat the M3 but the weight of the M5 is very noticeable on the brakes particularly. Howver, BMW have done wonders with this car, I've not yet put my M5 on the track but from what I've driven so far I think it will be very good nonetheless. One other aspect to consider is the turbocharged nature of the M5 does take a while different driving style. Driving both is very confusing as you need to radically alter how you drive each of those 2 cars. so my summary is, test drive both, they are very different. pick the one that suits you but don't worry, which ever you choose you will be very happy. personally I'm really worried about the new M3, turbo charged M3 is going to take a lot of getting used too.
