Broken electrical connectors while replacing throttle actuators

I'm working on replacing the throttle actuators in a 2011 E92. In order to move the wiring harness out of the way, I detached a number of electrical connectors. Despite using trim kit tools and attempting to be careful, I broke at least four of them. Both of the actuator connectors and then two others in the vicinity.

For the most part, it's just the part of the connector that acts as the locking mechanism that's broken. The connectors still function they could just work loose now.

A few questions:
  • Is it possible to replace the connectors without replacing all the wiring as well? Does it depend on which connector it is?
  • Any tricks to avoid braking small brittle plastic pieces on connectors that feel stuck due to age/grime/dust?
  • Any reason not use high-temp wiring harness tape to secure the connections instead of trying to replace them?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

Just a small tip - I usually break these plastic BMW things when it is cold, in cold the plastic can be very brittle so it is always better to work in heated garage, etc. it makes a big difference.

AFAIK, BMW sells connectors and wiring repair kits for mostly everything. Have you tried realoem?

I would zip tie if you think that would work, rather than cut and splice in new harness connectors. These are unlikely to work themselves loose due to a broken locking tab.

You can get replacement plugs and use pin-pushers or other picks to remove the actual connectors from the plastic plug. I have done this many, many times over the years. You do have to be careful and be aware how these plugs work, so google will likely be a good friend for this.

As mentioned, the $.02 version of this fix is to use a wire tie where possible. I have done that plenty too, lol. Just be sure to buy high-temp wire ties, not some Walmart specials or you will be right back where you started. GL!

I try to use plenum rated Panduit zip ties whenever I can under the hood.
