how do I improve torque?
Currently my only performance mod is iPE F1 exhaust. I am changing the X pipe to another iPE X pipe which claimed to have more torque. I drive my M3 95% on stop and go heavy city traffic. Anyway I am heading to the track soon. I have my 18" TE37 SL with Hoosier R6 ready. I am still on stock suspension. I know usually people who run slicks they lower their rides. Will this be a problem?

Since you have a DCT, the 3.62 Limited Slip Differential from Dinan would be suitable for your M3.
Almost 15% increase in torque! However, top end speed may fall a little.

Buy a 335i
![]() Joking aside..these cars are all about HP and that means correct gear selection..there is no way around that..you cant just lug it in a high gear and expect to take off like other torque laden cars |

I agree that this 4.0L V8 is not designed for strong low end torque. You really want more displacement or twin turbos or a positive displacement supercharger, none of which are reasonable cost items for these cars to the extent they exist. Another car with strong low end torque would be the best choice.

I find the 3.45 to fit the car perfectly. As long as I'm in the right gear, feel like I have a fighting chance against some of the big boys on track (I always lose though

3:73. That tall of gearing is useless in the first two gears. Also, that gearing doesn't increase torque, only multiples the feeling of it in the first three gears. |

A differential change will affect the multiplication of torque in all six gears on the 6MT, not just the first three gears. It is true that the additional multiplication offered by the transmission ratios ceases once you reach the 1:1 ratio, but that does not happen until 5th gear on the E9X M3 with 6 speed manual. The overall multiplication obviously does diminish as you go through the gears, but you will feel a diff change in 4th, 5th and 6th. |

It doesnt increase torque at the flywheel, but it does increase torque at the wheels which is more important.

Figures listed are for the 6MT model
Quote:
2.40 - 2nd gear 1.58 - 3rd gear 1.19 - 4th gear 1.00 - 5th gear 0.87 - 6th gear 3.68 - Reverse 3.85 - Final drive The difference in readings between 4th and 5th gears would be marginal at best on a dyno. I can only assume safety comes into play hence the reason we dyno in 4th gear.
