I think some of this could be solved by having more threads with this kind of information stickied.

M3forum.net stickied just about everything you want to know about an E46 M3 on the first page of their general section.

Would be great if that would help....there have been plenty of new members that started a thread on a topic that was stickied, then there was that member that started a thread on a topic when the topic already existed 7 threads below his....

To those who laughed, you can also search the forum by the following keywords. And you will know if you're one of "to repeat what others say".

"2010 2011 difference"

Now it is getting close to end of 2010, many people want to buy a new car, and 2010 is definitely cheaper than 2011. But what is the difference and what I pay for is a common question at this moment? Those dealers will only try their best to sell the stocks first.

So for those who want to buy a new car and can't find the answers after searching the forum, you can take a look at 2nd reply by Technic.

Thanks!

I can see how there would be some confusion AFTER reading the PDF.

For example,

Listed under "New Standard Features": M drive - The programmable "M" button exists in my 2010 model as do all the functions listed. The "Automatic start/stop" is something I do not have however. The "Manual M sport seats" are an option that I guess wasn't available for the 2010 model.

So the auto start/stop and seats are new but that M button programming lists everything I can do in my 2010. ?

Moving on - the "All new convenience package" (replacing the "technology" package)
Again.. I have all the same functions here with possible exception to the "voice command" on the nav. (Never tried it so I don't know)

While the PDF seems cut and dry to someone not having owned a 2010 and purchasing a 2011, I have most all of the same features the PDF lists as "new".

Just my .02 cents.

On a side note I did search rather than simply post up a thread on this very subject

But then, I'm not exactly new despite my appearance and have just shy of 2k posts as a "former" member

It will fit. There was nothing changed to the front end of the e9x M3 throughout its model run as long as you're swapping to the same type of M3 (sedan to sedan, coupe to coupe)

If you can make an account and thread, you can use a damn search feature. Don't coddle idiots, it just encourages them to be stupid.

Edit: this shit is from 2010? Holy thread necro, Batman!

Having owned both some differences that I noticed.

When programming the M button - in 2010 you could program DCS off. In the 2011 the furthest you can go in MDM?

Gas cap is different - cheaper feeling on the 2011
Sunvisors are plastic vinyl on the 2011 and cloth that matches the headliner on the 2010.

Small differences but differences that I thought were interesting, it feels like they tried to cheap out on the 2011 were they could.

Agreed. If the answer is so obvious and in a thread it'd be a sticky.

OP
Someone has taken the care to update wikipedia so suggest you look there.

There's a model lifecycle thread here and that was where the technical differences occurred (this was forest result after entering e92 and LCI into Google which you could have done. That's where the main diff's occur. The years you mention does not have many (if any) differences

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=457159

2007 launch model with manual gearbox
2008 DCT
2009 CIC (better nav and extra shortcut buttons on I drive controller)
2010 LCI LED rear lights (didn't get new front end as coupe was already vastly better than saloon) and relocated heated seat button to main console rather than lower switches behind gear stick
2nd half 2010/2011 combox (able to option better internet features and stuff)

Direct answer to your question is not a lot changed between 2010 and 2012 except combox which started being shipped in cars *built* from OCT 2010.

I think 2012 further made standard some entertainment tech that was previously an option. E.g. DAB in the UK. Check the manufacturing date vs model year as e.g. there's plenty of 2011 plates made in Nov /Dec 2010. Likewise my car is 2012 but was made in Nov 2011 so didn't have DAB as standard. I also saw on another site that some late 2008 cars came supplied with CIC out of the factory. Others have had retro fit CIC with an emulator to bypass VIN coding controls.

But an earlier model could have those as an option (and more) provided it has combox. So your best bet is to look at the list of all the features and compare
