Brakes making a whale sound?
A month or so ago I noticed a slight, whale like moan coming from front right tire area. The sound was only present when making slow rolling stops, basically in traffic.
I took the car to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong, pads are fine, no leaking, no nothing....basically saying that these cars make these sounds from time to time. Well, the sound has gotten continuously worse, so much so you can now hear it over the radio. It also only does it after the car is warm and does not do it on all stops. Anyone experienced this? Any ideas on what may cause this. I only have 7 grand miles on the car and have not tracked it or driven very hard whatsoever. This is my 5 BM, so I have experienced some brake noises here and there...but nothing consistent like this. |

Yeah I've noticed it a time or two at low speeds, rolling to a stop, etc. With these types of pads (not exactly performance pads, but more so than in a non-M) I expect to get noises like that when under light use.

You might be able to stop the sound by bedding the pads in properly. Do about 10 stops from 60 mph to 10 mph without letting the brakes cool and don't leave your foot on the brake after each stop. Then cool the brakes off and perform the procedure again.

Yeah, I did a bedding run on a highway trip a couple weeks ago. It definitely did help. But at low speeds I do still feel and hear a little of what the OP mentioned. I think it's just characteristic of the M3 brakes and it doesn't bother me a bit.

Brake noise
As others have said, it's normal, likely the drilled discs. Mine used to do that occasionally, but it's been gone now for some time (18K miles).

Yup had the same thing happen to me. Although it doesn't happen all too often so I'm not that bugged by it. I'll mention it to the dealer at the next service.
