First drive videos of the new M2 have me thinking, but not very seriously.
I really don't think I could give up the superior daily-driver aspects of my M3 6MT (including driving with more than one full-sized adult passenger in the car) but I can't help but muse a bit on driving a car that's most of what I love about my car with a shorter wheelbase adding to the fun.
Driving-wise, my M2C's insufficient grip and lack of adjustable suspension were my two biggest gripes with the car, followed by the low-rent plastics, low-information gauges, and the utterly tiny trunk opening. I wonder how my G80/82 drivers will swap to the G87? Overall, the only advantage is likely to be the shorter wheelbase...I don't think it's going to weigh much less. |

I had the f87. I will take the longer wheelbase for daily driving any day of the week. M2 was too twitchy.

I do love the stability of my M3, no doubt about it. I'm pretty sure my thoughts this morning watching the video were a moment of "30 Helens agree, it was better before...". For the most part. |

I gotta be honest. I am intrigued by the new m2.
However it is not final until the car is officially revealed. The main concern is I may not like the instrument clusters in person. However I do think the m performance wing looks really good on the spy shot. |

The G80/82 comfort on the road is worth the small compromise of agility in track.

I drove up a mountain and back down yesterday, just to spend some time with the car without any particular agenda. It was a great reminder of just how GOOD my M3 is. There wasn't a single moment on that drive when I wanted to be any other car that doesn't cost significantly more (looking at you, Mr. too-expensive-911).

Most to all of those issues you list with the F87 should be addressed with the G87. That said keep the M3 as my read on the reviews is that it’s mainly a smaller G82 other than:
- Slightly weaker engine. - Sligthly weaker front end. - Less spacious. There doesn’t seem to be a significant wow factor from the smaller footprint to make up for it. This can of course change once the full reviews are out since being herded around a track for a few laps is not an optimal way of testing a cars all strengths and weaknesses. But for now I’d say, enjoy the M3 |

I'm considering one, and on a waitlist to replace my M4cx, but I was hoping the M2C was to be released together with the M2, so not sure.

I have to admit, with the engine being only a tune away from M3/4 power, and transmission, brakes, wheels, etc being direct carryovers from the bigger brothers, the M2 makes a compelling argument.
I appreciate the size of the M2 vs the M3/4 as I live in a big European city. I actually preferred the 2 series greenhouse vs the 4 series loaner I had the other day. The 2 felt easier to look out of, while the 4 was more of a low slung coupe. Ultimately I feel like it comes down to X Drive vs RWD, and overall feel. I'm sure the short wheel base will be fun around the twisties, but as most of my driving is highway, and city, with the occasional sweeping country road, the M3 makes more sense I think. Also disappointing to see the carbon buckets are the only really "sporty" seats available (just can't get comfortable in the CF buckets), as the regular seats look like m240 variants. I'm anxious to see the actual front end of the M2 as well. I'm not sure how the square openings will look. Ultimately, the M2 will be a car to look for in the rear view and on track.
