Ironically timed update regarding jump packs: My parents are moving to CO, so we had their car transported here. The auto transport arrived this evening with the car. The auto transport guy had to move two other vehicles to get my parents’ car unloaded. One of the SUVs that needed to be moved was totally dead. The transport guy asked if I had jumper cables. I got all excited! I said I have better than that! I got the Scosche jump pack and…….the SUV fired right up! Was very happy to see that. And the charging lights showed that it was still at 100%.

Inspired by the dog and recent event I ordered two Hulkman 2000 for my street car and the wife's. Then texted the kids the link to get one for their cars as well.
1. I was visiting a friend in Connecticut that his 2012 X5 had battery problem. He showed me a small lithium starting kit and said "these are great!" 2. On the way to Connecticut I stopped at a text stop to text, and a guy with a Honda wanted me to jump start him. I said "race battery" "small" "I can't" yadda yadda. But i could not just drive away so I jump started him. 3. On the way back from Connecticut I stopped at a gas station and the car goes completely dead after I shut off the engine. I hit the Voltfreek reset button and all is good. Strange. Only happened before once. 4. LRP was normal, well not the tires which is never normal with me, but the rest of the car. I come home and I see the dog recommendations. So when all these events happens in the same three days, one has to take notice and do something about it. I feel a lot better using the Hulkman jump starting an unknown car than using the M3 or any of my cars. |

Can you install quick disconnects on your truck batteries? They make switch like units.

Have you ever looked into air jacks? Or is that not really an expense that can be justified at the moment?

i have antigravity's xp10hd jumper and it doubles as a power source. very lightweight and easy to stow away in its case. i signed up for their email list and got it at like 25% off when they had a sale. its been great for my nissan that sits for long periods of time.

My friend has them on his 996 Cup Car. And while it is quick to raise the car (once the nitrogen rig is setup and the hose is out), his nitrogen tank anxiety, in terms of making sure you have enough tank pressure, and all the infrastructure/space commitment needed to safely haul a tank of that size, plus all the hoses and hand trucks needed would be difficult in my trailer from a space standpoint. I’m simply running out of room in a 22’ box. For me, it’s not worth it because I don’t have to do fast wheel changes, and I usually don’t have a crew of techs working on both sides of the car at the same time. It’s usually little ole me noodling away at the car on one side. I carry two floor jacks in the trailer along with two jack stands. For 99% of the things that come up at the track, that has been enough to get me through. |

Today was a DE day at Buttonwillow with SoCal Drivers Club. Super nice guys.
I'll leave this picture with you to allow you to guess how my day is going......sigh.....and to make it worse, if the fix works, I'm going to have to be indebted to StripclubDJ Nooooooooooooooo! Seriously though, thanks to the guys at European Auto Source for trying to jam this into their busy schedule. Hope the fix works. Whatever is going on is throwing transmission codes and the car will only run in even gears. We're thinking that one of the clutches might be done. If it's the mechatronics system, we can't get our hands on that quickly enough to get me back on track for GTA this weekend. We'll see. They're working on it now.

Sorry for your troubles, could always grab a junkyard transmission! Would have lots of spare parts then.

Looks like I need a DCT flywheel as well. So yeah, gonna be hitting the junkyard circuit hard this morning. Unless—-does anyone in SoCal know of a DCT flywheel lying around available?

Found a salvaged flywheel today. It was super rusty but no one seemed concerned. It felt way better than mine.
I’ve been trying to figure out if the flywheel in my car is the E90 one or if this one came from the E92 during the motor swap. I believe it’s the one from the E92. Now I’m hesitant to put the E90 flywheel into the E92 as we put it back together. Ah so much fun. Anyway, hopefully I can get to Buttonwillow tonight and be out on track in the competition tomorrow. I’ll use Saturday as my practice build up day and then go for a good lap on Sun AM. We’ll see. |

Thanks for the hard work TJ. Really appreciate it. Hope I can put down some decent hot laps make it all worth it! Car seemed good on the Dyno.
If anyone is interested in checking out the GTA event live: http://www.globaltimeattack.com/live Yesterday, while on track, I would experience a weird thump under hard acceleration and shifting, and a warning would appear on the dash—a yellow round gear with “!” inside. And then it would only go into even gears even when the setup was not hot. It did this twice in a row in two outings on track. Clearly something was up. The best guess was that it was one of the clutches. EAS squeezed me into their busy schedule and had some lightly used SSP Spec R clutch plates, so I immediately left the track and headed down there. While tearing the car down, they also noticed that the dual-mass flywheel appeared to have excess play in it. You could easily clank the front and rear plates together. And there were rub marks on the metal plate on the front of the trans. TJ and Steve were concerned that if the flywheel totally failed…….something quite bad could happen to the motor. So the hunt was on for a flywheel. Steve presented me with a couple options first-thing this AM. So, I ran across town to see what I could find. Due to the issues of the last couple days, my plan is to keep ramping up the pace gradually on Saturday with whatever scrubs I have. And then if everything is fine, I’ll go for a good lap with good tires on Sunday. In the past, I’ve gone for it right from the first session Sat. But I need to shake the car down a bit, so it will have to be a different plan this year. Gonna get some shut-eye. |
