E92 M3 Rocker cover coating peeling/cracking

Hi,

I viewed an E92 M3 yesterday with 124k miles on it and really liked it. One thing that concerned me was that the coating on the rocker cover is peeling/cracking? Does anyone know if this is normal? I'm am guessing it should be replaced? Will it have caused any damage if bits of the coating has fallen into the engine? Thank you.

From my understanding it is a normal phenomenon. I'm not sure what, if any, damage could occur with bits of it falling into the engine. Many forum members opt to have them redone by powder coating. I think most of the peopling occurs on the outside, but I'll late others confirm that.

This is normal. The inside and outside paint on the valve cover peels over time.

I had the valve cover replaced to fix this issue.
