Looks like some people are confirming the same in the California regional forum as well. No more sniffer. Just hook up to OBD.

How did you pass visual without any cats? Or do they not look for that anymore also?

Here is a clip of my catless x-pipe right after install from Macht Schnell and Megan catback...note: this was during the cold start cycle, so sounds a little raspy. Its been a few mths now and the whole system as settled nicely. I know its virtually impossible to make a decision via a sound clip on YouTube, but I made my decision based on price point and quality ( fit and finish ) mine isn't the cheapest and certainly not the most expensive. I couldn't be more happier. I've mated this package with an Evolve tune and DCT / GTS update. I get lots of compliments on my car, but more on how it sounds.

Cheers

depends on what exhaust you have... if you have a slip on Akra they go very well with DINAN...

There isn't one. The 'best' power won't be more of a variance of 5hp at the most. The weather conditions when you drive your car have a bigger impact than that.

Our HFC X-pipe uses a primary high flow cat in the factory location and replaces the secondary cats with resonators. This design allows the car to not trigger a CEL and allows for improved performance while also providing a more agressive tone. It is a good match with our mufflers, the factory mufflers if you do not want to replace them or any aftermarket mufflers that have OEM fitment.

We also have a full catless option that runs two sets of resonators if you do not care about being emissions compliant.
I've been running the full ESS system with high flow cats for over a year with no problems and no CEL. The sound (admittedly subjective), fit, and quality are all top notch. One thing that is important to me is that the exhaust sound be aggressive but not be intrusive in the cabin. This system is excellent in that regard. I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more often in the forum.

I'll be looking into getting an xpipe..want to get rid of my sec. cats. I already have test pipes and a rear section. Just need the mid. I've heard fabspeeds is really good and with resonators, prevents the whole system from rasping (too much). It's just you gotta be careful because a lot of companies that have xpipes also delete primary cats. So if you already have test pipes, then the system is a waste of money. Hence why I'm looking at the fabspeed

The Fabspeed uses a very good cat, but in the OEM location the damm thing will rub every chance it gets. It doesn't tuck in like the OEM cat, thats is why they are pancake shaped.

As far as packaging is concerned and if you want to run cats, the test pipe configuration is so popular.

Fabspeed seems awfully like all the other chinese stuff on ebay, just more expensive.

Not the cat they use, its an HJS unit that is quite expensive. I just dont like the placement due to packaging.

I thought best power and weight was the Akra one.

I'm looking for an x-pipe that will mate up to the OEM headers that delete primary cats and keep our Stock high flow secondary cats and will not throw a cel, and will mate up with the stock OEM rear section of the exhaust because I want to do the stock mod to the exhaust I'm running a basic Dinan tune. Any suggestions or help would be awesome. I'm thinking this setup will still pass emissions am I correct? I'm pretty sure Dinan doesn't delete CEL for exhaust. Or even a test pipe that will fit my needs. Any help would be greatly appreciated I've use the search button and it's all overwhelming a lot of info but still don't know what I want for my needs

Sounds like you want test pipes, but removing the primary cats without modifiying the ecu will always throw a CEL, unless you use some other trickery like placing the oxygen sensors behind the secondaries...not sure if that has actually worked, though I remember that someone tried it previously.

Okay..... will that set up at least pass emissions maybe I could eat the Dinan tune waste that money and save for another tune like ESS or something. I definitely want the power by eliminating the primary cat but I require emissions testing where I live. My Dinan tuner already told me I could bring the car back for no charge after exhaust work so they could hit the relearn process

I'm still unclear on what exhaust setup I want. I want to delete my primary cats, but want to keep the stock high flow secondary cats. I can get a o2 spacers to help with a CEL, but my concern is emissions testing will this setup pass? I know that I can't be showing a CEL while testing, and not worried about visual because the M3 is so low to the ground. Any suggestions on a good test pipe or x-pipe? Thanks for any advice and help.

Well if you're not worried about visual and don't mind cutting into your stock pipe, the cheapest/easiest option will be test pipes (e.g. Macht Schnell) + Akra Delete R module (link).

Otherwise you would have to buy an x-pipe with an aftermarket high flow cat (most are 200 CEL, same as OEM secondaries) which are considerably more expensive (Ex. 1) (Ex. 2).

*Edit: Also, not to tempt your wallet, but iND has a 10% discount for father's day (dad16) ...guessing it expires after today though

I really don't want to cut up my exhaust, besides exhaust stock mod. I would like to mate up to the OEM header I guess looking for x-pipe that deletes primary cats as I believe and have read that the most restrictive but I'm concerned that I won't pass emissions test. Like I stated earlier I'll try o2 spacers to help with the cel and I'm not concerned about the visual inspection

I'm just going to go with the AA high-flow cat x pipe and the stock exhaust mod. How many O2 spacers do I need for this setup to help with any CEL's?

Good choice! I've heard it sounds great, just a bit too expensive for me.

Anyway here's one thread I've seen before. I'm sure there's plenty more. A lot of mixed results with the spacers though.
