Thanks for the post...
I had no idea... PS... This is BS!!! BMW is doing everything in it's power to PO it's base of fans!!! what about people who paid a premium to get a CPO?... they paid this knowing that when they resale the car one of most attractive things to the next buyer would be that CPO coverage!!!

I would imagine that this would only apply to vehicles CPO'd after January 1st 2014. There would be a real can of worms (litigation) opened if they tried to make this retroactive.

I would hope so. The old adage was BMW CPO's cars, not people. Doesn't seem to be the case anymore. With that being said, I guess the biggest question is can my CPO (done prior to 1/1/14) transfer to someone else if I sell the car now?

So with this language "unless the subsequent retail has been performed by an authorized BMW Center" it seems that cpo trade-ins will stay cpo, and also with the dealer getting a taste, private deals might also stay cpo.

BMW may be doing this to combat a situation such as:
Johnny buys a CPO //M3. Johnny buys and installs an ECU tune for his //M3 which raises the rev limiter. Johnny drives //M3 and hits the new rev-limiter. Johnny gets bored of his //M3 and buys a GT3. Johnny wipes his ECU and then sells Jimmy his //M3 touting that is still has CPO coverage for 2 more years. Jimmy has problems with Johnny's former //M3 and takes it to BMW for repairs under warranty. BMW says "Not covered under CPO because your car was over revved" Jimmy says "WTF?" Just a thought. |

If you were to buy a car on 1/2/14 that was CPO'd sometime in 2013, would the remaining coverage transfer?
Or does this only effect cars that are CPO'd past 1/1/14? Last edited by Rupes; 12-31-2013 at 07:25 PM.. |

Here is exactly what it says...
For Certified Pre-Owned vehicles retailed on or after January 1, 2014, the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Protection Plan and the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Elite Protection Plan are not transferable except within the BMW authorized dealer network or subject to the following condition: Private to private consumer transaction, see Limited Warranty Transfer Application: ---------- Meaning you can sell to another person privately and warranty stays. If you sell to any non BMW (or mini probably) dealer or wholesaler, the warranty is lost. Not sure how they will track it, maybe by title history? People will find a way around it. |

This is true. I have to review the material again but the CPO plan now covers the navigation and speak system. Please ask your BMW CA's for more info.
It is not retro. Jan 1, 2014 on.
