Issue with my idle

I was trying to get it on video but I didn't catch it. Every time I come to a stop at a stoplight, if I have my clutch out, not in gear, it tends to drop RPM's to about 300. It'll sit at 600 no problem, but out of nowhere it'll drop suddenly like I'm about to stall out. It's been happening the last month or so. I can feel the car start to sputter a bit. Idle control valve? Gas issue? Car is on 91 Shell and VF Engineering tune IPE exhaust with primary cats. It's been fine until the last 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for any input or help.

There is a thread in the general discussion section on various idle issues. The one I've experienced was the fuel tank breather valve issue. If that is the problem it will only happen after you fill the tank. There is a DIY on replacing it.

Spencer, Does it happen even more so when filling up the fuel tank? Mine was doing it really badly, (The car would stall sitting at a red light) right after fill ups. Then after it sat overnight or so, the next start-up would be back to completely normal again. Ended up being my fuel tank breather. Not too tough of a DYI either!

Yeah, well thankfully it's not too cold here. It'll happen randomly.

Yeah, it happens after that but also any time at all, haha. I'm going in next week to SSR Performance to have it looked at. Thanks for the help.

Also interested in hearing a fix for this!
Replaced my fuel tank breather and still have the issue..

When stopped brakes on idle bogs down to 500~rpm and causing annoying vibration,
when brakes are released idle goes back to normal.

Doubt its the brake booster. My idles at stop has been at 550-6 since day 1.
The vibration might be your motor mounts going.
If you changed the breather valve might be your IAC.

Replacement I believe. Thereís a bunch of threads out there where peopleís idle drops when on the brakes and turned out be a leak in the brake booster

I had an issue with RPM's dropping at idle with the brake applied causing a very rough vibration and seemed to almost stall. Let off the brake and RPM's popped right back up. Eventually I had a brake booster failure which put it in limp mode. Replaced under warranty. I still had the idle dropping issue with the brake applied after the new booster. Dealer did a vacuum test, all good. Since it wasn't throwing a code, they said it's normal which is BS. Very annoying and not very confidence inspiring since it limped out on me before....or maybe it was another issue.

One easy fix for under $90 and an hour of your time (depending on how the rear hose clamp comes off) is the thread for the breather valve that EJT86 has. This typically is not affected by hitting the brakes but it is common with fluctuating idol issues and many of us have recently changed it out with success.

Under the plenum along the drivers side. Circled in yellow. If you can take the plenum off with confidence then you can do this DIY. You can't miss the breather valve.
