+1.
Ford Mustang is the king of HP per $. M3 is an incredible car. As good or better on the track than most $100k sports car and can be driven daily in all conditions, even winter and comse with 2 or 40 doors. (in fact, a former VP at my company used to drive an e46 M3 all winter) sounds pretty kewl to me. |

+1. Glad to see that there is one other person on this (or any BMW forum) that hasn't overdosed on the BMW-Kool Aid. M3 is nice, but it is hardly the best car over 400hp.

One incentive to go to work everyday - drive my ///3. Nothing beats that for a Daily Driving Pleasure. It's an Allrounder.

looks like you still doesn't get the point of the article. you must not forget that the best car doesn't mean it has to be the fastest or most expensive. It is the overall package for a given price. just like choosing a wife..you don't want the hottest one but act like a complete b1tch for life, do you?

Just had to..."Buying this car for its dynamic ability, is like buying a porn film, for its plot." The 8C is a nice car, but unless its the Spyder, I dont fit in it. I tried, didnt work out too well. Out of that list, the M3 wouldn't be anywhere near the top for me. If it was just based on that list, and price wasnt considered, probably the DB9, Maserati Gran Turismo or the Spyker. Most of the vehicles on that list are either too big, too heavy or too ugly. |

Why dont you try out an STI or ... a 2 litre 4 cylinder Evo X. I was at the track last friday and spoke to the EVO owner who had his totaly stock and he filled up 3 tanks of gas to my 1.

there is a wide spread of engineering here. we must look at the whole picture and i believe it makes very much sense. based on what your getting for price the BMW M3 is the most well rounded, balanced vehicle out of the whole bunch. it is merely the all-in-one vehicle

The GT3RS is no daily driver I can tell you that. It doesn't even have proper street rubber (you get essentially slicks). Most US cities roads would eat the RS alive -- it is a track/race car. How do I know? I've driven with two of them recently. I totally agree with Car and Driver I recently drove the 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 for three days. It's a powerful car -- but scary to drive at the limit because of the arcane rear suspension setup.

Nobody makes mention that they pitted high performance sports cars against 5 SUV's and 2 pickup trucks. Its really a very pointless comparison.

motortrend must also be 'drunk on BMW kool aid' and almost every member of Inside Line who drove their long term M3 http://blogs.motortrend.com/6545156/...car/index.html http://blogs.insideline.com/roadtest...hots.html#more Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I'm not saying the M3 is the best allrounder because i have not driven the competition - but these people test some serious cars for a living and so their opinion carries some weight and credibility.

they must be smoking something really good, or the editor is looking into buying a bimmer pretty soon. Otherwise I dont see why they would kiss BMW's ass like that.

i love to read the comments from non-m3 onwers saying how the m3 isnt THAT great. test driving one is one thing but OWNING one is entirely different.
m3 falls into the category where its has both qualitative and quantitative attributes. once youre in the ///M club, you'll understand. its so true when people say that the letter M envokes so much jealousy and envy. kinda how the gt-r and lexus lfa will fall always short of a 911 turbo or ferrari 599 gtb in their respective classes. |

Overall means that you consider everything, including practicality (back seat, and trunk) comfort, fun, etc. in addition to performance and price. The GT3 while being immensely fun to drive, is not so fun for every day driving, is very limited in practicality and comfort, and is pretty pricey too.
What is the best is subjective. If you weigh performance more than anything else, then for 400hp you want the GTR. It's not as practical, nor comfortable, nor even as fun to drive as the M3. But if that's all that matters than get the GTR. Or if money doesn't matter than the Veyron is the best car. If practicality is all that matters than a truck is best. To us here on the M3post forum, considering all the factors that are important for us and for the price, the M3 is the best. And the folks that write magazine articles about cars feel the same way. Cheers.
