Help with "stealth" radar install
I am looking to have my dealer stealth install an Escort/Passport Qi45 remote radar detector, ideally in the ashtray that I will not use and can close to hide it if need be.
Here are the pictures of what I'd like my install to look like: Take this... And put it here... I know this is not an E90 M3, just for illustration Question is: Are there any aftermarket/or custom pre-mod ashtray plates or units that might simplify the install? Thanks in advance...

When you say dealer do you mean your BMW dealer or Escort dealer? Those panels require some basic fabrication skills that most specialist shops should be able to handle. As long as your not going to a big box store like Best Buy. Where are you located? I might be able to help you find a decent shop in your area.

If they're an Escort dealer then they should have the requisite fabrication skills to accommodate you.
I've done the same thing that you want with an E46 M3 I had and the V1 and Lidatek LE-30 (laser jammer) remote displays. I used a piece of wood panel I got at a hobby store (and painted black). Cut to the right size it fits right on the lip of the ashtray. Then just make the holes for the displays. I had to poke out a hole in the back of the ashtray for the wires to come through. It really wasn't hard and I assume not much harder with the E92. You could very likely do it yourself. But Murray Motors should be able to do this for you with with no problems. Cheers.

Well...I managed to spend a few weeks to plan
...and fabricate a stealth ash-tray install myself!
This unit operates: -Passport Qi45, with laser shifters -Whelen PA/Air Horn (top switch, mic in glove box) -Whelen white LED strobes on all 4 corners (bottom switch) ...and will still allow for the cover to close, hiding all the goodies! The pictures below are from my e90 335i (on 12/6/10 it will be instaled into my 2011 e90 M3 - Space Gray, Carbon Leather & 1/2Red, 1/2 Black interior): Items Used in Fabrication:
