We are thinking of splitting the duct in 2, like they did on the 335i after retrofitting the oil cooler, and use the bottom portion as a brake duct, but we need to test is first as we have yet to experience issues with the brakes.

Good idea!! Would be nice to have further brake cooling as long as there is sufficient cooling for the engine.

Front bumper is looking great and sounds like it will be good and strong! I like the overall look...a more aggresive version of stock! Please confirm this body kit will available for purchase and what the ball park price range will be? Jason

I would be very much interested in hearing what you find out. Although I am not considering messing with the engine, I would consider purchasing a front bumper kit which delivers brake cooling if it turns out that makes a significant difference in continued braking power.

Really nice lightweight seats you choose but you will lose air bag functionality. I would love to get a lightweight seat like that but how to make them function with the air bag sensors is the issue.

Yeah, I know. But I would only be missing the side airbag since the E93 has the side airbags built-in the seat like the seat belts, right? Im still thinking about it though. The seatbelts can be taken care of, its the side air bags I'm still thinking about. But 10 Lbs(recaro) Vs 70-80 Lbs (stock) damn.
Anybody know this?: If the stock seats on the E92 weight 65-70Lbs, how much more can I expect the stock seats on the E93 to weight since they have the seatbelts and side airbags built-in? Last edited by JMD0977; 10-02-2008 at 08:28 PM.. |

My seats required a crane to take them out there so heavy, I cold barley lift the damn things, they gota be 75lb each not including the motor or anything. You mentioned the side air bags but unless Im mistaken the air bag sensors wont work with the Recaros??? Maybe Unique can chime in on this one since he has those seats |

Air bags and aftermarket seats
Not only would you lose the sensor (maybe a workaround for that), but the side airbag itself is in the OEM seat, so no chance of retrofit. Not sure I'd be willing to give that up with most use being on the street.

If the stock motorized seats weigh about 75 lbs with all the motors and everything, how much would the base (unmotorized, hand lever) seats weigh? They should be much lighter than the motorized ones since they are so easy to move around.

My seats are finally here. They do look very nice and IMO better than the stock seats. They don't appear to be that heavy at all, I can easily pick the up myself w/o any problems although I still have not weighed them. No way they are 70lbs each.

I think we are quite close to being done with the design portion of the project. Now we just have to mirror the design, work on transitions and radii, then do the smoothing of the whole part and go into casting of the mold.
I think we accomplished what we set out to do, which was to keep the general look of the M3, yet make it more functional (for our needs, at least), and more aggressive. I really wanted to stay away from carbon flippers and winglets: they looked good on the E36, redundant on the E46, unacceptable on the E9x. Hopefully we will have a couple of production parts on cars at SEMA. If anyone outside the RS 46 customers are interested, let me know and I will try and give you timing and price. |
