Had this recall performed on my prior 328xi, as it suffered from the intermittent power cutoff, it was very dangerous, as id be driving on the highway and suddenly the revs would immediately drop and id lose steering, the car would jerk and then power came on back on again. Electronic contacts get hotter with current flowing as well as higher ambient temps, the cables connector to the terminal is the issue. The fuse box design and cabling are similar across the E series cars so its something to be mindful of and worth doing.

Did you get reimbursed? I've been waiting for this to be a recall and not a TSB so that I could get reimbursed for a very expensive repair 5 years ago...Finally got my notice in the mail yesterday

So the only thing that was out of pocket for me was the $20 cable, which I purchased at my local dealer. I'm not going to ask for $20 back. The time and effort required isn't worth it.

Has anyone put a valet tune on their car when bringing it to the dealer? I dont trust them. Would they refuse to work on my car because i put a valet tune on it?

I see. My Indy didn’t know about this problem 5 years ago since m3s were not part of the original recall. They replaced the whole cable from truck to glovebox so it was quite expensive for me

anyone got told by SA at BMW that this recall is internally described as "repair/replace"? The SA told me it could be just a repair. But our letters from BMW/NHTSA calls for replace. sounds like some discrepancy here.

I took the M3 to Seattle BMW for power supply system and heater wire recall. Upon leaving their store, ABS failure warning came on.
I went back to the store and left the car there over the weekend. The next week, they said they were going to replace the fuse box at no charge as part of the recall repair. After the fuse box was replaced, the service manager took the car home overnight on Thursday and the warning came on again. I left the car for more testing. Today, I got this message from them: "We have concluded diagnosis and all signs point to a failing DCS module and hydraulic pump assembly. We are reaching out to BMW next week to go over our findings and your situation. This may take a few days, either management or I will reach out once we have more information. May be going into end of next week at this time." Does this sound plausible? I had absolutely no problem with the car (or ABS) until leaving their parking lot after the recall work. |

From my personal experience, the service team at Bellevue is easier to deal with. The heater and battery cable recalls have no impact on DSC or ABS, although those two systems work in tandem as part of the overall stability programming. Not sure what to say about it all but if you wanna pm me, I can refer you to my advisor and tech at Bellevue. GL and sorry to hear she's acting up on ya. |

Had mine done 4 days ago with an oil change. Got a call at 1600 and told car is ready. I went out to start my car and the battery was dead. I got a jump from the dealer. Service manager stated that the door could have been left open and caused the battery to die... Seriously???? The dealer had the car the entire day from 0900-1630. While driving, I noticed that the voice commands were not working properly. Drove home, put the car on a battery CTEK charging system. Recharged over 2 days and battery checked out well when I ran a systems check on the battery. Started the M3 and all electronics work in vehicle to include voice commands, nav, iPhone, iPod plug-in, XM radio etc... Original 12 year old battery still in car. I don't know how much longer it will last, but it's holding a charge now.

Check the negative terminal to see your battery build date. Should be two numbers XX ZZ XX = Week ZZ = Year

It's been off the tender since Friday. Still fine. My concern is why the door stayed open over the day while servicing the vehicle.

I believe the part of the cable that gets spliced is under the glovebox/behind. Hence why the door was left open.
