Anyone running Mobil 5W-50

Curious as this is currently on sale at NAPA for 5.99 quart, it appears to have a decent HTHS 4.4 but doesnt appear to be LL-01 rated. I know from owning a 911, it is well regarded in the Porsche community but not sure how well received it is from M3 owners..

Many people use it no harm I guess. Just change the oil every 4-5K miles mark thats all..

The car is spec'd for 10w60. HTHS 4.4 is much lower than a 10w60's ~5.4.

NAPA should sell Liqui-Moly (Lubro-Moly) 10w60, run that instead.

I would use it in a pinch if I needed a litre if I was low, but that is it. I wouldn't do a full oil change with it.

5W50 should be fine. 0W40 works fine as well — I have been using it for 4 years. If you are tracking the car, I would use 10W60.

Hey dparm, I notice that Redline 1060 has the highest HTHS at 5.8. Whats your feeling on this vs. Liquimoly.

It's probably fine, but you could always thin it out a bit by adding 1-2 quarts of 5w40 or whatever.

There are other 10w60s with HTHSV ~5.8, such as Millers CFS NT, Mobil 1 Extended Life, and Motul 8100 X-Power. Most are around 5.4-5.5.

I use motul 300V 15w-50. Try it, you can definitely feel enhanced engine response.
I'll probably continue to use this oil except for winter.

15w50 would also work for a car that is driven mostly at the track. I wouldn't advise it for a car that is seeing lower temps at all.

Chevy actually suggests Mobil 1 15w50 for any of their cars which are driven at the track, but they also suggest removing it once you are done at the track and going back to the 5w30.

12.6 TBN, pretty nice. VI and HTHS aren't awful either, but I would be more interested to see how it performs in real-life rather than just ooing and aahing at a spec sheet.

I made a 500 mile long trip last weekend, with ambient temps ranging from 76F to 96F. Regardless of the ambient temp, with the 5W50 M1, the temperature needle ran about 1/8th of an inch to 1/4 of an inch hotter than it has in the past when using the OEM spec Castrol 10W60 TWS on prior highway runs. My highway speeds ranged from 65 to 80mph and no traffic jams were encountered. The A/C was on, as well as A/C re-circulation, so I assume the radiator fan was also on. Just one piece of empirical data for you.
Hmmm
Less friction would mean lower temps...
Try RL 5w50 and let us know the temps

M3 Post, interesting data, i actually just switched to Castrol 0w-40 and have noticed a very slight reduction in temperature, with the TWS10w-60 my needle hovered right at 210, with the 0w-40, its just slightly less maybe at 205..
