For you guys who have done oil changes at 5k or 7500, has anyone has an analysis done on their oil to see if you could actually go longer? The Audi guys do this a lot and it's interesting to see the results. Some guys were going as long as 8-9k on 0W-40 synthetic oil. It would be interesting to see how the M engine does with those tests.

i drive way less than 10-15 k per year like most people and discussed this with my dealer. They told me i could come in every year under the service plan regardless of mileage and have the service done under plan?

Ahhhhh 26, got it. But with the maturity level of a 16 yo. Ok makes total sense now. And why exactly am I jeolous? If you only new how ironically stupid your statement is? I got over 10 years of an actual salary? I'm quite familiar with resident salaries and buying an M3, not to wise. Guess what, my student loans are done, paid off! Oh yeah, I drive the same car that you do. Why exactly am I jealous? I'm just not as immature and a huge Bragasarus like yourself! WOW, and here you go again threadjacking your OWN thread. Good luck in your carreer, I can only imagine how well you get along with the other MDs....keep burning those bridges!!!

your above post comes off that way, when you say daddys car or whatever it is you made up from the other side of the net.
Find it funny the only one who is unwelcoming on this website is you. Since day one you always been a arrogant guy. Sorry but it wasnt me who shat in your cheerios mate.

I recently had mine done at the local dealer after 5.5K (following the initial
change at 1100 miles) i.e. @ 6600 miles.
The cost of the oil, filter, disposal fee, and labor, was $120.
Given the cost of that glorious V8, it's cheap insurance.

I discussed this issue with a guy I've known for over 15 years.
He is a shop owner / racer / engine builder that deals exclusively with high end street cars e.g. Porsche, Ferrari, and race cars.
His comment: "If it were my car, I wouldn't go beyond 7-8K at the top end."
This guy has been building, and tearing apart motors for 25+ years and has a bulletproof reputation.
I trust him.

Another factor: How long you plan to keep your car...
I bought mine, outright.
I'm not leasing, or planning on trading it in after 25K miles and "driving it like I stole it."
Any significant wear and tear due to extended oil changes is not likely going to show up during the factory warranty period. But later on...
Not worth the potential cost vs. the cheap alternative.

Bottom Line:
Each owner has the option to make a decision based on what they feel comfortable with. I've made the decision to change the oil more frequently. It's my car.

None of you have mentioned a critical aspect of oil change intervals: VOLUME. I always change oil in my vehicles every 5K miles (short distances, 100º+ heat, dust), but they only hold 5 qts max. The M3 holds NINE+, so my humble opinion is less than 7,500 miles is not necessary, assuming normal use (no racing, etc.). That's probably the best compromise among the environment, engine longevity, and our wallets. Just a thought. Good day gang.
