Do I need to add coolant under vacuum?

I'm a little confused as to adding coolant to the system... I plan on replacing the water pump and t-stat in a few weeks. I know I'll lose some coolant when I remove both these items. When I read some DIY's, I noticed that it's "recommended" to use a vacuum tool/coolant purge tool.

Am I not able to just reinstall the water pump and t-stat and just top off the system? Or do I need to do something special?

Thanks!

It’s a high mount expansion tank so air should find its way there and out.

With a plastic bleeder valve that will snap if you intend to use it while the engine is running. Grab a bronze replacement off amazon if you're going to use it to bleed out the air.

Air will go to the top. Leave the cap off or open the cap a few times to let air out.
