ADD WEIGHT? what? a whole half of a pound. Quite a few of us have done this mod, and so far from what we are seeing, everyone seems to feel a gain at 60mph ++++. So with some logic, that should tell you that there is some actual gains from this product. 14whp is a lot, I dunno if its quite up there but there is a definite noticable gain!

I find it quite interesting that a simple scoop like this can produce so much more hp and BMW didn't think of it??? Or that there could possibly be some negative consequences from the hood vent and BMW still didn't think of it??? Or the possibility of increasing MPG by 2 -3 miles and BMW would ignore this??? With all the money BMW has for R&D which is far more than any aftermarket company they somehow didn't think it was necessary to shape the intake with scoops like this???
Hmmm.... I'm not saying they don't work.... It's just interesting that's all.

I don't want to make any comments as to whether or not these scoops work as I tried to do a before and after power test using a Gtech, but I screwed up and didn't feel like taking the scoops off to retest stock. The vbox is the way to go, I hope someone tries this out.

I'm going back this weekend to finish up the design and then they will go into production probably with a group buy so people can actually test the product out and show the forum that its not b.s.

Yes, .5lb is weight, but it's negligible. Sure, they add weight, but its so little that there is no point in saying that weight has a negative effect on power; we're not talking F1 performance. You lose .5lb when you take a dump.

no it doesn't. people willing to pay for a product explains why it was copied. all you need is a market and there will be a product for it.

1. . We need some humor in this thread, very nice work.

3. Back on topic I definitely side with the skeptics here. All of the appeals to expertise (or post count) don't mean anything to me. Anyone can draw up some sheet metal parts, bend them and powder coat them. My question would obviously be if the designers of such components happen to use any CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software to virtually design, test and optimize these parts. BMW spends thousands of man and compute cluster hours doing so! Why - because it works, period. Claims of large gains at low prices always require skepticism, scutiny and validation. Sorry guys but butt dynos REALLY don't cut it here. Heck my car feels faster after I detail it. In terms of the A to B apples to apples comparison you CAN NOT use a different car. There are way too many confounding variables here including state of break in and normal factory power differences. You need you make multiple runs with the part and then on the same car without the part. You should then look at means and standard deviations to see if the difference is significant. If they are I would be happy to help out with that and to do some simulations to predict the crank power differences, if any. Keep up the discussion! |

We design and test all our ram air systems on the dyno while measuring IATs. Do we get it on the first try? No. We have several ram air scoops that either did nothing or even shown significant hp losses. |

V1 was sold 2 years ago (and first shown at SEMA) and is the basis of which AFE and Swoop Scoops copied. Yes, they do allow more airflow to the stock intake ducting but the more we dynod the cars the more ways we found to improve on the intake performance. That led us to the current versions.

New M3 scoops will be V3. For those of you who are local, give me a call if you want. Ill be offering the scoops at $129 w/ free before/after dyno (I want to confirm the results on a few different cars). Those of you who have purchased V2 from either Supreme Power, Group 5, Eurodyne, Trinity or any of our authorized dealers can receive the V3 scoops for $40.

Also, guys. Some of you know how we test our products on the dyno. If you are afraid of us beating on the car while its on the dyno, letting it heat soak and dyno with the hood closed then this offer might not work out too well for you.
Tightie was crying when I dynod his car. lol |
