M3 can be very civilized, as easy to drive as a 335, and can be quickly turned into an asphalt eating performance precision machine, or what not.
But the latter is really how it's supposed to be driven. It would be a waste to drive it like a grandma or grandpa most of the time, and the M gods might come after you. |

Unfortunately, your dealer could not be more wrong.

1) check engine light comes on at 50 miles- brought to dealership and they said most likey from not tightening the gas cap (i never opened it in the first place as we only had 50 miles on the car) and the light was reset. 1 day in the shop 2) light comes back on at 150-200 miles. Bring back in. Replaced dtml pump twice, dtml pump sensor, three smoke tests, replace feul pump, and detect a a kinked hose in the emmissions dtml line after 26 days being in the shop!! Only actually had the car 20 days not in the shop 3) with 400 miles- the engine oil level critical light comes on- back in the shop for 2 days as they find oil levels normal and replace the sensor 4) with 1000 miles the nav screen is half black- for two days- bring the car back into the shop - there for 1 more day and told nothing found. BMW apparently reviewed my case initally and said suck it up- i got pissed and said there is something wrong- they said now. Two months later (ealier this month) i get a call from BMW and found that if my car goes back to the shop for one more routine maintance issue it becomes a lemon and they offer trade assist. I do have to pay 200 bucks a month more for the M3 than I am paying for my 335 for the trade assist (they are giving a deal however that i cannot refuse) Sorry it took me so long to get back to you- this doctor thing gets busy

Yeah- well she hates my car (the coupe) and is giving up her car which she loves (btw she is a radiology resident and one day I will be begging her to let me spend her money so I gotta make her happy). I will drive the M from October - April during the winter here in the Cuse and I think we have worked out a time sharing plan during the summer: two weeks with her and one week with me

Are you looking for a used e90 M3 then? Since you can't get a new e90 M3 (except for existing dealer stock). |

well, let me tell you that you're gonna lose a great deal of fuel efficiency.
You're going from 6 cylinder to a thirsty V8. So be prepared to visit the gas station more frequently. |

We moved from a 335xi to an M3 last May. Fortunately, we didn't have issues with our 335xi, though worries about future issues was one factor in the switch. I'll echo the 335xi suspension is garbage, unless you like driving a 4x4.
Anyway, I too was a bit worried about how well my wife would like the M3 vs the 335xi, and if anything she loves it more. The power delivery is very linear, so it's relatively easy to drive well and safely for the HP level (unless driving in MDM or DCT off). No issues at all this winter with snows, though I'll be honest it was a warm winter in Chicago, and I drove my R32 some of the snowy days. Also, while she's learned to drive a manual, she's probably not the happiest manual driver, and really likes the DCT a lot too. As far as fuel mileage, city hasn't really gone down that much (~17 to 15.5), though highway is noticeably lower (from ~25 to 18-20).

Yeah- I don't care- if we have to worry about gas prices or fuel efficiency we shouldn't be driving BMWs
