Got owned by an older female driver in a buick

never thought that i'd rear-end anyone needless to say an older female driver in a buick. it happened on an entrance ramp here in nj. who would've that she would stop, but she did. i got owned. i swore that she was atleast 1 - 2 cars ahead. oh well, that's why we call it an accident right? her car didnt take damage, but i apologized if i scared her and etc. we exchanged info and drove off.

fast forward and a few hours later, i took to the dealer and they couldn't find any "damages", but if you look closely the front bumper is pushed in tiny bit. they have me a quote to take the bumper off and inspect the front. and for 1 of the front grilles and painted a tow-hook cover.

last but not least, i must say that i'm impressed that the car didnt have much damage than this is.

LOL Last year, in my e46 ///m, the exact same thing happened to me but my cousin was with me thankfully and hes like WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH so I slammed my brake and miss the guy by half an inch, literally. So close you couldn't fit a penny between the two cars.

Good news is, the next time you will look infront of you before you step on the gas, trust me. lol

Seriously some old granny should not be allow to drive at all. They brake whenever they like for no freaking reason. I had an encounter when merging onto freeway 101, was looking on the left to check on the coming traffic and the old lady in a cadillac in front of me brake out of sudden. Lucky I reacted quick enough and steer left into the empty freeway to save myself from an accident.

While old people (and young ones) do make many mistakes, let's not shift the blame to the person in front with the lesser car. Our cars have phenomenal brakes, but you still need to keep your distance and head's up. Driving defensively is the key, even with the M3.

I'm not arguing the point above, however people need to drive predictively to avoid causing accidents. Someone stopping on an on-ramp for no apparent reason is just poor driving. The inability to merge smoothly into traffic is also poor driving. And while the law isn't going to agree, the Buick driver stopped where she shouldn't have and was actually partially responsible for this accident. (Granted, I'm making some assumptions about this incident, since I wasn't there). We've all seen drivers make dumb moves which caused or could have caused and accident. Many folks don't take driving seriously or even think about how their actions effect others on the highway.

I cede the podium.

Sure, it's crappy driving. But that's to be expected! I agree, drive defensively and predictively, but keep your eyes in front! I agree that the law sometimes gets it wrong, but in many cases it IS the person in back who is at fault. This sounds like it could have been avoided:

I presume things arn't much different in the US - dont think you should have apologised to her even if you were at fault ! One to remember if it ever happens again.

As you've suggested - I'd be getting the bumber mounting brackets checked for alignment - its amazing how much damage is under these sorts of bumpers where there is no external damage.

phew.. good thing that aluminum hood didnt get dented. If it did, your bill would be much higher. Careful next time, you can't really blame anyone else for rear ending someone in a car that utilities as good as yours.

Again, I'm not saying that it wasn't the OPs fault, all I'm saying is the chick driving the buick was probably driving poorly. I'm making some assumptions here of course.

The same thing almost happened to me a few months ago when merging from Rte 3 to Rte 46 because the guy in front of me stopped for now reason!! Anyway, it would have been my fault....but what a bunch of poor drivers can be found on the roads sometimes. Hope your car will be ok with such a short list of repairs!

she admitted that she had same thing happened to her with a different car a couple of weeks back. so yes, she's poor driver. with that said,i should've been more careful regardless who's in front of me.
