Moving on from my M3
She was a great car, but ended up selling my E92 M3...such a fun car but I feel like I need something quicker off the line and willing to save up for it. I was able to sell it for a good price and the kms were up to 175,000kms.
Question to you guys and gals: Anyone upgraded from an M3? What vehicle and any regrets? I’m looking at a Porsche 911, Jag F type v8, AMG GT, and even a Z06 corvette. Thanks in advance! |

It’s like people enjoy telling people to search first, yet it takes more effort to write it, rather than just move on.
Forgive me for trying to participate and get some new insight. |

I really want to drive the new 911. A used GT3 would be sweet. I also really like the M2 CS, but I think it's a bit too compromised for its price point.

I'd rather a GT4 or even a GTS 4.0.

I am looking at 991.2 TT and TTS, but am thinking about keeping the E90 M3 as a practical car. Either the modded N/A E90 M3 or the turbo E36 M3 would have to go. Might wait a year since there is a surge in used car prices right now and supply is tight.

Keep me posted on your e90. We could do a nice and easy local sale. It sounds like you’ve put quite a bit of blood, sweat, and tears into the e36 so you would probably want to sell the e90. Are you looking to sell this summer?

I went from an E90 M3 to a 2016 AMG GT S last year. I wanted my first super car experience (though really I think the GT S is more of a sports car), and with AMG GTs being available for less than $70k, it seemed like a bargain at the time.
Here's what I love about the GT S, then what I miss about the M3. * GT S is hugely faster than the E90 M3, especially from lower RPMs where the turbos flex their muscle. * The GT S has gorgeous classic styling, and looks like some of the best sports cars of the 1950's and 1960's. * The GT S is one of the few modern sports car with hydraulic steering. It communicates so much through the wheel, and I think it is at least as good at telling me about road textures, impacts and tire loads as the E90 M3 steering was. * The GT S has a dang good DCT. The programming is smart enough to sort out trackwork in automatic mode. * The biturbo V8 makes some pretty mean sounds...though it just sings one song rather than varying it up the rev range. What I miss about the M3: * The M3's seats were so much more cushy and comfortable! The AMG's are stone hard and very narrow. On longer trips I get antsy in the AMG. * The M3's suspension was more comfortable too, though it wasn't quite as good at resisting body roll. * The M3 has much better outward visibility. * The M3 is a smaller car, but still feels spacious inside. Plus it's got back seats and a real trunk! * The M3's V8 may be less powerful than the AMG's but the M3's engine felt more special. Its razor-sharp throttle response, frenetic high-RPM thrust, and ever-changing song were real delights. Anyway, the two cars are quite different, and I'd love to have access to both. I wrote a lot more about shopping for and buying my GT S. If you are curious, you can find it on my blog here and here. Last edited by 414bhp; 07-07-2021 at 02:54 PM.. |

I just sold my SC'd M3 and grabbed one of the last configurable M2c allocations. It is do at port on Friday. I am sure most here might consider this a lateral move or downgrade, however I really like to size of the M2. Since i do not leave anything stock, It will be a fun little project.

~'18 F82 DCT ZCP is a solid choice. Not sure if 718 GT4 would provide that much better acceleration from stop, E92 M3 DCT is plenty quick in that regard compared to 718.
992 is a good choice as well but I would definitely go above S variant as the base model does not come with LSD not even an option.

Viper, but you would need a Gen V given your height. I am 6’3” and couldn’t make the other work, or at least not with a helmet. The C7 Z06 will be pretty cramped. A GT350, GT3, GT4, or GT4 RS if you can get an allocation, should be fine. The Camaro 1LE would be solid too, but just not my preference on looks.
I think the cars above will be a lot of fun and hold their value. Another would be the Jag XKRS in place of the FType. The FType sounds great and is great for cruising around town, but not much more than that. The XKRS might be a bit more special and fun to drive. |

This is a great idea, too! I've driven the 1SS, 2SS and 1LE Camaro SSes (here, here and here, respectively) and they are all amazing performance cars that do comfort and performance as well as the E9X M3. (But not luxury...though you do get modern smart phone connectivity.) Plus, if you like to get a bit rowdy in your cars, the Camaro SS completely condones antisocial driving. Heck, the burble-tune exhaust crackles alone are enough to piss off the neighbors. The LT1 engine not quite as special as the S65 in my book, but it is easier to put to work thanks to its immediate low-end torque.
Regarding headroom in the Camaro SS, if you are over 6'0" tall, you may need to test to see if you can fit with a helmet. I'm 6'2" and my helmet was touching the ceiling of a sunroof car. |

A lot of good recommendations here. My take is if you want faster, want to retain a backseat, and willing to sacrifice some refinement, you cannot beat the Camaro ZL1 1LE. It literally can do it all... and comes in a manual.
