BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
None

Item Interest
Fellow M3post enthusiasts,

Based on a recent poll, we will be running a special on Carbon Fiber steering wheels at GB pricing!

We have negotiated a base pricing agreement that may slightly increase depending on your personal build preferences. Those are specifically called out below.

The base price for a 6-speed manual transmission steering wheel is: $570
The base price for a 7-speed DCT transmission steering wheel is: $680

This price includes shipping to your door.

The base price includes:

1) Any combination of Black 2x2 Carbon (top/bottom) and shape.
2) Any color combination and texture for leather (top/bottom/sides)
3) No added cost to include 12 o'clock stripe of any color (assume leather for leather tops or vinyl embedded stripe on gloss carbon finishes)
4) Paddles not included for DCT
5) No steering wheel buttons or center trim for any transmission type
6) Enhanced side hand-grip shape on all wheels
7) Colored stitching (options included in GB spreadsheet)

What options may incur additional upcharges?

- Alcantara
- Forged Carbon
- Specialty colored 2x2 Carbon (blue/red)

If you are serious about making ya purchase, send me a PM. We'll quickly move to text to ensure fast correspondence regarding your order.

*** Update 9.7.22 ***

Cost to add LED to any steering wheel = +$300

Base price increase due to shipping costs to USA.

Please contact me directly for details on how to order.

Thanks!
Pat

You show digital displays and shift lights. Is that an additional option we can ask for?

Yes. I wasn't sure how popular this would be because it's an absolute pain in the ass to wire them. Do you have DCT or 6-speed? If 6-speed you are actually better off. There are 2 available pins you can tap into in the oem clockspring. If DCT you'll need a new clock spring with a 12-pin harness.

If you're truly interested I can help you out. I'll get pricing on led version for dct and 6-speed while I'm at it.

I can help you out with this outside the group buy. I have a different source for this.

Send me a pm and let me know what color stitching you want with the alcantara. I'm assuming you want it to look like the one on the vivid racing website.

added me to the list, tho could you post a link to more pictures of wheels you have made?

Also, could you provide more details on how the wheels are made? do they start off with a BMW OEM wheel for instance? do they use real carbon fiber? Which type of leather?

Last question, what's the warranty on these if anything starts peeling of or stitches undoing themselves, or whatever else could go wrong?

Anything in particular you'd like to see? I don't make the wheels but should be able to provide additional images if the ones posted on this thread are not sufficient. Most wheels are built using the same general principles. They don't vary that much from brand to brand and that's coming from someone that's owned them on several cars.

If you plan to retain the airbag, then a carbon wheel is always made using an OEM core. They are striped down to the metal core so the bottom can be reshaped (flat) and then relayered using carbon fiber material.

By "real" carbon, I'm going to asume you're referring to carbon weave fabric (which is raw/textured and handled similarly to fiberglass).

The wheels are not built using any vinyl or hydrodipping technique. The carbon fabric is then coated in a clear UV and chemical resistant epoxy before being sprayed in automotive clear.

The hand grips are shaped in foam before they are recovered in leather. I believe the leather is synthetic but durable and high quality as even the airbag cover I installed in my M3 matched the black nappa leather perfectly.

As far as warranty goes, I've personally never even thought to ask. Since this is a personalized modification item and not an off the shelf solution, I would expect that if any issues are identified with the wheel, that those would surface immediately after opening the box for the first time.

Once you get your hands on one of these, you'll see that these things are robust and durable. There is nothing frail about them. In my opinion, it would take a lot of abuse and probably misuse for the threads to come undone or the leather to start peeling. Alcantara may be the exception, and speaking not from experience, but rather what I've read from others who have the BMW OEM performance led wheel in Alcantara. I don't have a single alcantara piece in my car so I cannot speak for its durability. But from what I've read, alcantara does seem to wear faster that any other material.

Edit: I asked the supplier to warranty terms, they are 1-year. I did ask for additional clarification as to what is covers vs. not. However, I've owned about 7 of these and never had an issue with wear or stitching coming undone. More to come.

Pat

Yes definitely. Those can be kept entirely normal.

Once you enter your details we can discuss that to make sure it's clear when placing the order.
