unfortunately lawyers need to stay in courts good graces. so the only good defense you getting is yourself. its quite sad. If they didn't have your speed and you go to trail...unravel their case...your attorney will get one victory....but lose all HIS plea bargaining power for other offenders. Its a metrics game...isnt everything tho
I am a former prosecutor and never held it against a defense lawyer who fought hard for his client. All I ever asked was that they fight clean. Many defense lawyers who fought hard became good friends of mine but we still fought hard during court. Then went out to the bar for a drink.

LoLing..

Actually it's time-stamped "'98" and it's a police dept. budget. How much/well of state of art camera equipment you think they are possible going to allot, for that time and money.

Things done change since then..

Just did a round trip from Texas to NJ, 7 States, 80 police cars, probably 5-10 shooting radar, no laser alerts. Waze saved my butt a handful of times.

I hated driving from TN, through southern Illinois, on my way “home” to the suburbs. I remember getting pulled over 3 times in like an hour stretch around Mt. Vernon I think. 1 trooper cut me some slack with a warning and the other 2 didn’t hesitate to write tickets for doing about 10mph over. Having lived outside of Illinois for the last 7 years I don’t think I would move back. I’ve been spoiled with the unlimited autobahn.. I’m going to be screwed when I move back to TN this summer lol. No more 100-150 plus mph rips for this guy.

Ha! Years ago in another universe..

I helped my wife elude the cops... I was 5 cars behind her and saw a cop pull out after her, of course she was speeding .. while me in an M was going UNDER the limit... I called her on the phone and guided her through traffic .. the cop got jammed up, never turned on the lights.. by the time she got on the highway, she hit the nearest exit (next town)... cop flies onto highway, but loses her and had to make the u-turn before leaving city limits...

As a general rule, if your last few years are not bad, a State's Attorney will likely agree with defense counsel to reduce the speed by negotiation below the threshold where you have a suspension or stipulate to court supervision (no conviction) provided it's not obscene. As to anyone's curiosity, yes I am an attorney.

Exclamation Virginia is serious about speeding.

We lived in Virginia for 23 years, then moved to Iowa for four years in 2007. Four years later we moved back, to our vacation home in Maryland but both of our daughters were in college in Virginia.

I always felt safe going just under 15mph over the limit. When we moved back and did a lot of driving in Virginia, whoops - the new rule is 10 mph. 11 mph over the speed limit can get you pulled over.

Cops everywhere. Driving all kinds of cars including Dodge Chargers - but always American branded. Changing speed limits everywhere including on roads that look and feel like highways.

And NOW they can get you on the fly - either coming at you or behind you they can track your speed. They never sit at speed traps anymore.

Same goes for Maryland. Lots of speed cameras too. I think you gotta watch yourself anywhere on the East Coast, frankly.

We should have a thread just for what's the customary over amount by state, I don't drive that often but I consistently saw NJ doing 15 mph over (for you to just keep up with the traffic) and maybe a bit lower to the same for NY

Yes in heavy freeway traffic I simply keep up, which can be well over the 10mph+ limit. In such conditions police aren’t out trapping cars because it’s just too dangerous. But as soon as you get to the next stretch of road where traffic isn’t as heavy police will be looking for fools.

I live in rural Maryland and frequently drive south on route 13, which is a 55mph road but goes through lots of little towns with varying speed limits. People almost ALL drive at 63 in the 55 zones and most are local and know exactly when and where to slow down.

On highways we now have an occasional 65 limit but goes back to 55 near congested interchanges. People who don’t keep up with the speed limit changes easily get ticketed.

Always amuses me to see a NJ, PA or NY tag flying by me (and everyone else) and a few miles down the road - yup, Smokey da Bear put another notch in his cap.

Over the past few years most people have integrated the new speed-limit patterns. Those that don’t should only drive in Montana or Utah ...

I miss the good ol’ days. Never ever will I have a chance to really wind out a big motor. 40i is plenty for me!

I've been in an M5 doing 150+ and had lights come up way behind us (maybe 1500 ft back)... pushed it up to 170, lights disappeared and 3 minutes later took the second exit after a large interchange and stopped for gas. We never realized it when we passed him, and nothing on radar (maybe he was on a side road), but the lights eventually disappeared. Rumor is that the police in our city have a do not pursue policy above certain speeds unless a helo is present.

I wasn't driving of course, and encouraged my friend to slow down. Speeds like that are only for the track!!!

he chased me good 30 min to pull me over, guess he kept getting stuck behind semi trucks. I was surprised he didn't call for backup
