2-piece OE replacement rotors?
Hey guys,
Does anyone other than Performance Friction make a 2 piece replacement rotor in OE fitment? The PF ones are called Direct Drive Rotors. I spoke with a StopTech rep at Bimmerfest East last year and he led me to believe they would have something however it doesn't look like it. I need to replace mine soon. |

I had Coleman Machine (or google up Coleman Racing) make me a custom set for my STi for half the price of PF.
The rings were around $120ish each and they were heat treated and lasted me forever (wear induced replacement vs cracks). You would need to send them the stock rotors once. They will design it for you and send the new kit. Moving forward, all you have to do is call and they will ship the rings vs sending them the specs again. They do rotors for NASCAR and Prodrive in the US so rest assured you'll be safe for DD Lutfy |

Thanks guys. Just a little update. This is what I received from my inquiry with Stop Tech. Erik let me know: We have begun development of a variety of 2-piece replacement rotors including those for the E9X M3. We have some projects that are getting priority which are almost complete, after which the M3 parts will be finalized. At this point I see these parts becoming available n the next 6 months or so.

one of the best brake technology companies out Performance Friction (PFC) make replacement 2-piece rotors for our cars. That is about as good as it gets.

Their v2 design is significantly lighter than their v1 design, which was already a light floating rotor design. I'm running their BBK, however, the direct drive rotor system is identical to the one used on the stock rotor size/design. A nice advantage is when it's time to replace a rotor you only have to buy a replacement rotor ring (disc only, no mounting hat needed because it's reused) |

I had the DD rotors on my E46 330 which had a BBK based on the E46 M3 rotor. Well...those rotors wore out super quick. About 8 days and they were cracked pretty badly. The OEM Euro rotors lasted much longer.
A member here had one crack completely on him. I love PFC pads...not a fan of the DD rotors though.

See the thread below. I don't think my rotors were far from looking like that. Now that's 2 of 4 people that I know run these rotors. Maybe bad luck but I'll personally pass on these. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=cracked+rotor Compared to my stoptech rotors with my stoptech kit (about the same size) which I got 16 months of constant track days and street driving out of (and the rings are cheaper).

Were your cracks small stress cracks that formed over most of the rotor surface or a few large cracks? Did they form near the tabs on the ID of the ring? |

They started in the middle but quickly grew towards the insides. Then they started looking bigger than your normal hairline cracks.

They offer both types - dimpled or slotted - with their e9x M3 brake kit. However, PFC prefers the use of dimpled rotors on street cars over slotted rotors because the slotted rotors make more noise.
