Prospective E92 buyer
Hi all,
I've been eyeing an AW / BW E92 M3 for some time now. While this is entirely personal taste, but I find a E92 m3 to look good from almost every which angle, which is hard to witness among cars these days. In canada, a new E92 M3 with DCT and EDC demands a whopping $90,000 CAD, an amount not-so-insignificant for a 28-year-old. Having said that, I've been running my business for 2 years now and by the looks of it, I should be able to pick up a E92 M3 by 2014. Yes, I know that's the year E92 is fading out and (hopefully) F32 M3 is stepping in. But that's OK, as I LOVE the looks of E92-----in fact, I am somewhat worried that F32 may or may not look as handsome and its predecessor. While picking up and driving the car is fun, researching and reading is just as entertaining, if not more enlightening. Hence I've been lurking on the forum for some time now, but just registered today as I have some questions: #1 Why is that BMW gave E92 M3 the LCI treatment on the tail lamps, but no LED angel eyes on the front? Or are they reserving this on next year's model as a minor face lift? #2 If done by the books at the dealership, what kind of maintenance cost in USD am I looking at per year? If anyone could pitch in using CAD, that would be lovely. #3 To be perfectly frank, I am really more of a low-end torque person. In theory, I should pick up a 335is instead, but the shallow me can't let go of E92's wider stance and unique front + rear facia, not to mention I really am not a big fan of the dark exhaust tips of 335is. At this point, many of you would argue that M3 does have torque. And I agree with that, especially compared to the 268 lb-ft found on my 350Z. But still, 295 is somewhat short compared to 332 and the 10-second glory of 370, available at an insanely low 1500 RPM. Should I pick up a 335is (and chrome the exhaust tips LOL), or wait for 2014 E92 M3? Not that M3 would have any power / torque gain in 2014, but at least all the final improvements would've been made by then. Last edited by Sam_Fisher; 03-19-2011 at 12:10 PM.. |

buy a 335is. btw, 2012 is most likely the last year for the e9x M3 PS. It's prospective not perspective in the context you're using it in.

Based on my configuration, a 335is is about $21000 cheaper than a M3.
So you are saying that they would discontinue production of E92 in 2012, but wouldn't push out the F32 until 2014? Why the blank period? I remember E60 M5 was canned just a few months ago, and F10 M5 is going to be revealed this fall? |

That means I only have till 2012 to pick up a new E92
On the bright side, F32 should have a ton of low end torque. While we will all miss the high rev S65, there is nothing wrong with having the ooomph off the line. |

They want to make sure the new regular coupe doesn't fall apart it's first year before turning it into a race car...so they will observe all the first year 3ers and once it's all fine and good, they go ahead with the m model

Engine torque figures mean almost nothing

You must be deaf not to want to own a m3 with a v8 in it. Sure the turbos will be cool, but the sound will never be there. Also you have to worry about a blown turbo and the extra pressure on the engine. Besides what good are turbos in 94deg F summers.
Basically, that v8 just sounds so good.

I have test driven 1 M3 before, so my actual experience with this car is rather limited. Guess that's why I didn't quite capture the audio effect of the engine.
Based on the aformentioned brief experience, I found that I must keep the rev above 5000RPM in order to keep the car moving. I stand to be corrected by your daily M3 drivers though. |
