Short Shifter Recommendation For E92 M3

Newbie here to the M platform but not new to modified cars. (@rhd.jessie) I recently picked up a 2008 E92 M3 and I’m looking for a short shifter that will retain my oem shift knob, Zhp or bmw peformance knob.

One person have recommended the auto solution I think it’s called but I’m curious on if there is any other options?

Thank you

AutoSolutions works very well in my E90 with a 19% reduction.

Auto solutions here as well and couldn’t be happier. There are a handful of other options though as well, yes.

Auto solutions here as well. 100% happy. 100/100 both the product and their customer care.

Just wanted to see what are the other options before making a final decision.

The less commonly recommended SSK that are oem style are the Rogue Engineering Octane SSK and the UUC SSK

Here's a link to a review for the Rogue Engineering version: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=456187

Then there's the race style shifters that are chassis mounted suched as CAE and RTD. It's recommended you get stiffer transmission mounts since the shifter assembly no longer moves with the transmission.

Having previously owned a 2005 ZHP with that short shifter, I just had to have that short shifter in my M3. I went with the F80 Lighted Shifter 25112284705..

Easy DIY. Love the look and feel, and that short throw

Another vouch for AutoSolutions. Pain in the ass to install but worth it, much improved over the sloppy rubbery feel of the stock shifter.

Seems like a lot of mix reviews on this one

I'm undecided on this. I have a Rogue Engineering SSK that's not currently installed that was included with the sale. Most on this forum will recommend Autosolutions shifter but I haven't seen any direct comparison between them from someone who's experienced both. But effectively, they use the same strategy of lifting the pivot point and extending the connection to the selector rod.

Had Autosolutions on multiple E9x M3s. It is the best shifter to improve shift action drastically yet retain the OEM look. If you want the race car look and feel, try the RTD chassis-mounted shifter.

From your description in what you want in a shifter, Autosolutions is the one. Tried and true, loved by all who own it. No need to risk any other options with mixed reviews.

Yeah this was my only thing too, I haven't seen it being compared to anything else.

juvi22003 AutoSolutions SSK recommendations posted are great indicators.

Fully concur, Autosolutions is the superior product... personal testimonial from multiple 6MT SSKs:
  • 1998 e39 540 - UUC
  • 2003 e39 M5 - Autosolution
  • 2008 e92 M3 - Autosolution
  • 2012 e92 M3 - Autosolution

Autosolutions, not a vendor.

Built to order, he will ask you questions and give you advice.

Mine took about a month.

Enjoy!

if you want a chill comfortable setup go autosolutions, if you want the fastest best shifting quality possible go with an rtd or cae chassis mounted shifter, nothing else compares.

Another vote for AutoSolutions. Ronald is an artisan (and a super nice guy!)
