From what little I've seen, the 292s don't add much overall power either, and what they really do is shift the power band higher up, with total area under the curve being pretty lateral. Personally that's not a change I'd be interested in, but depending on use case if one lives at high RPMs on the track, that could be worthwhile. So the 284s, which I hadn't even heard of it before this video, makes some sense as a middle ground to keep some low/mid range power as well. That said, the $/benefit ratio of cams on these motors seems pretty awful regardless of lobe size.

My friend had Schrick 284s and ARH longtube headers. Not sure what else he did but I swear the car sounds like a Gallardo V10, especially on the overrun.

Hello, here we go
It looks like that Sreten wants to show us that he can do even better than he did with the Alpina. It is like watching a surgeon performing a surgery Last edited by NiBe; 12-01-2023 at 02:24 PM.. |

I like the Sreten videos, but some of stuff done here is very sub optimal to be perfectly honest. Like in this earlier video of Alusil bore honing, the guys at H2 didn't use a torque plate to ensure the bores are stressed like it would be when the head is installed. Not using a torque plate while honing modern thin wall Aluminum blocks is a BIG NO NO. I binged watched H2's channel and they are pretty darn good when it comes to proper assembly and rebuild techniques, but this is not ideal at all.
As far as Sreten's videos, they are well produced but it makes no sense to rebuild the engine and not spend the extra time and effort to do some common tasks like properly sizing the con rod and main bearings. Especially when the engine is already stripped and cleaned. Any other experience engine builders on here? |

H2 is one of the most trusted BMW engine rebuilt shops in Germany. People all around Europe drop off cars there, go figure. Last edited by LOW4LYF; 12-23-2023 at 08:26 PM.. |

I can see why that might be the case, I still can speak and understand German, and binged watched many of their videos. They seem to do good work, have knowledgeable techs. I'd feel comfortable having them do a rebuild for the reassembly portion. It doesn't seem like they do all their machining work in house, but that's not surprising either. I didn't see a line boring machine. It also seems like they couldn't do some irregular block deck facing either, seems like they rely on another shop who does it on a CNC, which is also fine. But none of that changes the fact that torque plates are used to properly stress the cylinder block which alters the shape of the cylinder. It REALLY needs to be done when doing a proper honing OR boring operation, even on old school iron blocks. No torque plate was being used during that hone job on Sreten's S65. I'm just scrathing my head on that one. The difference is actually measurable. Perhaps it was all about getting some videos shot quickly or they just didn't have a torque plate. I have one that I custom made for the S85. I just think it's important for people to know these are the little details that matter alot and why some rebuilders charge more than others. |

it's probably due to the induction noise and cams. he doesn't have a modded exhaust from what i hear, and is still on oem xpipe.

I'm sure he's got the good ole kitty delete. He can't explicitly mention it because it's not TÜV-able.

I'm getting a lot out of this series as an owner, it's really helpful to visualize each job when it's filmed this way.

Until the last episode it has never really occurred to me, since I'm yet to deal with it, but: our stock front brakes are a single piston floating caliper setup.
Mind blown. |

so his is most likely gutted, but I'm pretty sure majority of the exhaust note is changed due to cams.
