And thanks, the speaker is that tiny little cube shaped piece with a wire connected to it?

How could that possibly be making a noise that loud inside the car. I'm baffled.

Edc is gone. Rides like a fast racecar.

Take a look at the pic again. I edited it and circled it.

It's right here.
so I am now certain that the sound is not coming from this little guy… its coming from just behind the glovebox.
im suspecting that the previous owner has installed some sort of alarm which is starting to act up …
i guess I will just have to get used to it and next time I'm going to do the periodic check, I will just have BMW look into it and see whats up… unless anyone else has any other ideas which won't involve me taking the dashboard off 😂

Seems like you're really close to at least locating it.

Can you try to feel around with your hand as you click the fob to see if you can feel vibrations to precisely locate which exact piece is making the noise?

Could it be a faulty relay?

i would be very surprised if a faulty relay would make this sound… its very high pitched…

its just coming behind this black cover…

I'd take off that black cover. Locate what is making that noise.

Otherwise if you take it to a shop, you'll be paying them to do the same thing.

so it’s been almost 2 years since…

forgot to give an update… finally BMW managed to narrow down the problem…
seems to be the lock of the glove compartment 😂😂 …
51 16 9 130 769 is the part number which needs to be changed…
since I’m not driving the car that much I have not bothered to change it as it just reassures me the car is locked everytime )
Will probably order it the next time I’ll do the oil change.

The TAs came up last week so will have to start looking at that first…

Thank you for reporting back your findings after two years! It was a very entertaining read.

A couple of things that were mentioned, the "device" under the hood that someone had you go on a wild goose chase checking is known as the "Sensor f. AUC." This sensor detects poor air quality for the IHKA module.

Another side note, some E9X cars did not have an alarm system from the factory. Rather, they had preparation for it. You would know this with an order code of "S5GA Preparation Alarm System." You can also look this up as per your VIN. On mine, I was able to retrofit and install an alarm system since I wanted the beep-beep on locking/unlocking. It was a very simple coding of the DWA module and I was able to get the clown-nose to blink during arming with acoustic verification.

As to your problem, seems very interesting that the locking mechanism was squealing this bad. I THINK this is unique to E93 as you can "lock" the car with the top down--including locking the glove box, which is the purpose of this particular component.

indeed this is a feature only for the e93. with time the sound got even louder and “squeaky-er”. probably the unit is struggling more and more. I will report back after actually changing the lock, just to confirm
that this was indeed the problem.

I was joking with the confirmation for the lock as anyway I use the comfort lock so I can always see it. Its just been a way of “accepting it”. 😂

If you have the dealer change out the part, be sure to ask for your old one back. I'd be curious to see the condition it's in. Maybe something like the plastic wore out causing the noise...or maybe even just the solenoid itself.

But glad it got identified properly! TAs would be a little bit more of a priority tho.

hourayyy

THANK YOU very much...
thanks to this forum / posts... I now did identify where was located this sick duck squeaky-ing.

Then, I decided to remove 2 screws, in the glove box, to release the duck.
and it seems it's not the part you identified "51 16 9 130 769" (inferior lock) but "51 16 9 130 770" (exterior lock)... once both are seperated.

Please have look to spare part list below:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qhb...ew?usp=sharing

So I did continue, and tried to put some grease in order to fix it ; but works few minutes, then the sick duck comes back to squeak.
So I just decided to disconnect the wires on the part "51 16 9 130 770" (no more automated open/lock of the glove box... but not an issue for me... for the moment)
