As mentioned above I did the same, after replacing all 4 o rings....
Needed more rings, weekend shop closed, needed the car...another story...

I also used petrolium based lube, no reason to cheap out, give everything a good lube. The way I remember it it wasn't that tricky to get in once lubed. Going easy with the fuel lines was more in my focus (I didn't demount them but bent passanger side slightly)

And yes, its quite ok to start the engine without the plenum, I did that time. here's a clip of the occasion:

Thanks Guys. Yes I plan to change all four rings and lube them when putting them in.

Can someone chime in about running the car for a brief period with the air intake and plenum off. Is it ok to do so? I would really like to do this if possible to check for leaks before putting it all back.

Edit: posted this before I saw Helmsman’s reply. Thank you.

Not only you can run the motor, but you can also drive the car without the plenum. It will throw an error code which you can clear later. Have done that many times. And BTW, the car sounds damn nice without the plenum.

Hey Guys,

I got the Tstat housing and of course it’s the damn Oring that broke again. Anyways I intend to replace all 4 Orings but the metal tube is tightly sealed into the T-Stat housing. How do I get these tubes out? I am afraid I will end up damaging the Metal tubes itself if I try and use a grip to pull them out (even if I use a rag between the grip and the tube). Now I am wondering if I should even mess with that end…any suggestions?

Mine came out fairly easy - there is nothing but the o rings holding them in place, maybe a spray W40 helps out.
However if you managed to confirm the other end was leaking e.g. you're pretty sure these don't, just leave them. Should they turn out to frigging leak after all, give them another go.
(and again, test without plenum is fine).

Cheers

Nevermind I was able to tap them out from the inside with a Flat head. They were sealed pretty tight. Glad that I did because I did see one of the Orings on that side was also broken. Thanks again. Also do you think something like Vaseline is ok to lube the rings before putting them in?

In the words of my 6th grade Health teacher. Grab, twist and pull!!

Edit: I see you got them.

Just lube them with fresh coolant.

Yup..just dint want to use too much force and damage something else, have done sh** like that before so just being over cautious I guess. Also another question - is there an order in which the tube assembly should go in order to not damage the Orings. I mean Should the tubes go in on the engine side first and then slip the Tstat housing onto them or vice versa? The angle at which the tubes with the Tstat housing already mounted, go into the engine is a little awkward so I am wondering if that is what ended up tearing the Orings twice..sorry if I m being a lil paranoid but want to get this right this time..

Probably a little late now. I attached the tubes to the TSTAT first and then put that in as a unit. I was just ultra careful (and maybe lucky) about pushing it straight in, nice and slow. I supposed you could do it the other way around though.

Yeah, I installed it a lil while ago and no leaks so far, finally I guess I got it right. As everyone mentioned here I lubed the sh** out of them and put the tubes first into the engine side and then slid the Tstat housing side as straight as I could. I will keep checking for leaks, every now and then but I guess I am good. Thanks to everyone who chimed in ..
