Great points.

If you look at the MY production numbers, you'll see that 2009 was really tough.

For example,

E60 M5
2006 - 4762
2007 - 1225
2008 - 2828
2009 - 272
2010 - 404

E63 M6

2006 - 1135
2007 - 1629
2008 - 635

2010 - 289

E64 M6
2007 - 2005
2008 - 1016

LCI stands for Life-Cycle Impulse, which means facelift.

On E90 M3 it happened in 2009, on E92 and E93 it happened in 2011

looks like 40 dakar yellow e92's worldwide. one of the more popular Individual colors. I wonder how many of those were from the "edition" dakar yellows as opposed to through the individual program.

also, it's weird that they don't count colors like ruby black and azurite black as special production colors. I wonder why that is.

good info thanks.

My guess on Ruby and Azurite, and I could be wrong, is that although individual colors they might be more standard ready to go individual colors.

The US configurator has them for the 5 and 7 series. Maybe those colors are ready to go in the paint booths and don't require the same lead in time as these other specially colors.

Just my theory.....could be wrong.

Also, through a Google search it appears the Brewster Green was in Hawaii

Yeah, the first thing that jumped out at me as well was the volume compared to the E46, especially since I remember reading how they were initially targeting higher volume than the E46. Yeah, the global economy is a factor, but I'd be curious to see E9x (non-M3) vs E46 (non-M3) sales numbers in the US. I think it would show that the E9x M3 was simply less successful than the E46 M3, I think the more competitive playing field is the big factor though.

Interesting stuff.

The stats are for the Canadian/US cars only. World wide there were 140 of them built

Well, they do and they don't. In some cases standard Individual colors are issued with the SONDERLACKIERUNG (490) code and sometimes they use the actual paint code (

I get that the "special paint" cars must not have "normal" colors. I'm just wondering what else makes a color "normal?" There seem to be several that were built in lower quantities than LMB, say Melborune Red, for example. Is "normal" any color that was used at least as often as LMB?

I'm just asking so I know for future reference what a normal color is.
I took the position that "normal" colors are non-Individual in the US colors. Melbourne has more than LMB if you add the LCI+non-LCI.
