You have a lift now. This would be a great project. I would have towed the car home to assess. I stay away from dealers.

pure coincident that it went 2 months after the service or maybe something possibly went wrong in the service?

What is recommended service interval to change fluids on the DCT? Is it a simple drain and refill or is it an actual flush?

bmw says that it's a lifetime fill however several members suggest a periodic drain and fill

Interesting. What does that maintenance guy in the BMW CCA magazine say? Old school Mike or some name like that?

I'm no expert but seems like the kind of thing that should be done every 30,000 miles or not at all.

Reason being EITHER keep the fluid in there consistently new every two years / 30k OR leave it to age with transmission internals as the entire system ages, which appears to be Bmw spec.

sorry to hear, maybe your dct tranny lines or filter gaskets leaked out and lost pressure which caused the failure.

its always cheaper to keep her than sink all the money in a new ride..

So what signs lead up to this? Any signs of issue? How many miles? Have you ever changed the fluid? Do you use launche control a lot? Things and reasons.

As already said, loss of fluid will cause the shifting issue, could possible get away with a new pan, gasket, and oil. DCT gearboxes are dirt cheap if not.

Join AAA, upgrade to platinum after a year when you are eligible. Free tow up to 100 miles. If you have an old or high mileage car, it’s good. Won’t get you home if you are in a long trip but good locally and at least gives you some choice as to where it goes.

You have annual registration tax. It will be high for a few years on a new car. It takes a certain amount of money to runs government so there is a basket of taxes and you will pay one way or another. We don’t really have low taxes in NH when you consider the big picture.

Miles? Like I said in the first post, the only sign was that loud clunk and it jerked the car a bit when going from P to R. Sounded as if like two gears didn't mesh properly. No, didn't use since a long time. I did some highly spirited driving since changing out the fluid after changing out the dct pan gasket to make sure there were not any leaks.

ALSO, I remembered that I had the car up on the lift last week to check the drive shaft and guibo. I also confirmed that the DCT pan was dry, so no leaks there after replacing the gasket and driving hard on it.

Right, but what I/we want to know is what caused it. I'm still waiting for what they say.

lol I came from an area in NY where annual property taxes alone were $25K. I'll take NH taxes any day

I remember reading somewhere that it is bad to replace the trans fluid in an old transmission, if it has never been replaced / drained. is there some truth to it, and does that apply to DCT as well?

i was thinking about draining it when mine hit 60k miles... bad idea then?
