Your screen name is fitting

I have never gotten anywhere near 10 track days on a set of tires. Nor do I know anyone who has - I'm impressed the poster above got 8!. The reality is the longer a tire lasts, the less grip it will have.

I squeaked out 6 track days from my OEM MPSS, but they're enormous and all 6 were at the same track that I know very well -- so I managed the tires.

I would get about 7 days out of BFG R1s. I'm trying to think how many days I got out of the Hoosier R7.........maybe 5 or 6 (not sure).

I drive many hundreds of miles to go to the track. RE71s still last 6 days.

Still the best streatable tire that is actually fast.

This really speaks to a broader issue of realism. The OP needs to accept track days consume wearables. Tires, brake rotors and pads, etc. Tire wear as Parm aludes to can be managed but it can be a little frustrating you know you are leaving 2-3 seconds a lap in order to preserve wear, but choices are choices. You're not getting 10 days out of track tires unless they are rocks in the end.

We'll see if they chunk when the weather turns hot. I'm hoping the larger size will help with that (it's .8" wider than the 265).

The AD08R is an old tire and won't have the grip of the RS4. It's also really expensive ($384 for their 265/35/18). Looks like Tire Rack has a lot of older stock in some sizes which probably means it's being phased out in favor of the new AD052.
WTF why did they discontinue the 275 RS4!? I was planning to run these for at least a few sets.

Link to my experience with RS-4s and other tires related to track wear and grip.

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=24632850

Can someone confirm that Hankook discontinued production of the 275/35/18 RS-4? That makes no sense.

Maybe the R-S5 is on the horizon. I know that others have mentioned how these things tend to show up in huge batches (on the freighters, probably) and then are suddenly unavailable for a long time.

It's a competitive segment though.

That results from understeer so could reduced by adding camber or maybe there is an alignment issue. If you add camber then maybe you won't understeer as much. Or maybe you do.

That wear is an indication you're exceeding the limits of the tire and beating it up.

I'm assuming that tire was on the front axle.

To be clear, first and foremost, I interpret dragging a tire across the surface to be a toe issue. As for my observation, I am running in FStreet SCCA which only allows for alignment pins pulled, which means insufficient camber up front. I get -1.6 to -1.8 side dependent. Give me -2.5 or more even, and I'd be really happy and you'd probably never see this wear.

The picture is of a front tire and they both look like this. The rears have similar wear but not as much. -2.25 & -1.9 camber with zero toe up front and a little toe in at rear.

Do you feel like you get understeer?

I'm sure I get some understeer. One of my sessions I had an instructor in my car and he said I needed to be smoother on my turn in's.

Could be but understeer essentially does the same thing except it's 3600lbs pushing the tire across the pavement. Really, comes down to generating too much heat and chunking the tire.

People wrongly assume sliding the rear wears your rear tires faster. It certainly doesn't help them last longer but it won't result in significantly more wear as long as you manage the heat you put in them. Sliding through every corner certainly will reduce treadlife.

Case in point, I can get the same 7-9 days from NT01s as everyone else.

That's a clue.

Yes it is a clue but I would have expected the wear to be on the outside tread block of the tire, not the middle one. Was wondering if it was too much pressure (38psi after cool-down lap).

38psi hot does seem high given your cold/starting PSI. Makes me think you're putting too much heat into the tires, which would make sense if you're getting understeer and the instructor is telling you to improve your turn-in.

Full disclosure, I haven't had an M3 on track in over 2 years now so I can't remember exactly what mine used to do, but I don't remember ever seeing as high as 38 on the 255/275 setup.

If you're 38psi after a cool down, you're higher than that during the session. Typically, I saw a 6 psi increase on my E90. Sometimes I'd get 8psi on the rears if I was doing a lot of sliding. If you're getting more than that then it's likely you're over driving the tires.

Okay, good, this confirms what I see even on my car. I start at 27-28 and end up around 34.

Have had a few sessions where it gets up around 36-37 and when I look at the telemetry, my inputs weren't smooth.

Damn, James, I can't get more than 4 days out of NT01s, and I know you like to slide as much as I do. What does your e46 weigh now? My car's at around 3550 + 220 with driver.

Hope to see you on the 3.1 this weekend.
