Going in is unwise and not legally required.

But if you must, you should bring a lawyer. Even if it's just a friend with a bar card. It will set the tone.

Be careful with your words!

Amazing how many slimeballs are giving shady advice on this thread, they seem to think the police in this country is a corrupted institution worse than the mob in its worse days and according to them must be treated with great fear, distrust and all the possible deception.

Wow, what a sh^ty country this thread is depicting.

This letter may not even be from the police, someone trying to get him to walk into the police department and talk about his own speeding. Good joke.

I do not recommend that you talk to the police on your own. You don't know what type of situation you are walking into and you do not want to be subject to interrogation and possible prosecution. Your best bet, if you choose to respond at all, is to have a lawyer friend find out from the police what they are investigating and may communicate to the police for you.
I am an attorney too. Everything here is absolutely what you should - which is nothing. Ignore it. Unless you get a court summons you are under no obligation to go in.

Nothing you can say to them can in any way benefit you. It can only hurt. Exercise your right to remain silent.

Tell the officer it couldnt have been you, because rod bearings.

But in all seriousness, why are people taking this so seriously and telling the OP to go meet some mystery letter writer? I cant wait to see OP on the news, raped and dismembered because he was lured into some dark basement by a creeper posing as a LEO. This thread is full of the worst advice i have ever seen, in my life.

Good luck OP. Just remember, it rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

Ahh man, I was hoping you wouldn't respond back to this post for a while so the speculations on your arrest would develop a bit more. Could have been an epic thread!

No! Send them a letter with your lawyer's address and tell them to forward all inquiries there.

This is actually a very interesting thread. I wonder if this type of thing might become more common in the next few years with the increase in police and civilian dash cams, where they could use the footage to get a plate number and to make a complaint about speeeding, aggressive driving, etc. Good to know from the lawyers who've chimed in that unless you are stopped and ticketed by an officer, they can complain all they want to no avail.

Details! Update, OP!!!

BTW, and FWIW, I would have laughed at this mofo...

"Dear sir, it has come to our attention that you maybe, possibly were seen speeding in our area. If you would be so kind as to come on down to the station, please, and confess to your crimes, we will look favorably upon you in the next life..."

If there's one thing i have learned from all my years watching Cops, it's deny, deny, deny, baby!!!
