Wait - you're thinking of adding a full cage to a car that is still driven on the street?
Half cage, not full cage - it will be driven on Street to and from track events.

I used to drive a fully caged car to and from track events for the last 3+ years... I realize the inherent risks involved - I had padding in all of the "right" places in my last car, but realistically that wouldn't have done much if hit and my hard hit a bar.

Half cage only has the bars behind the driver so presumably a touch safer when on the street - would have to have something go very very wrong for your head to go that far back :

Ok -- thank God

I think one is less safe driving a caged car on the street to the track, overall, than running a half cage or just a harness bar

At the end of the day these are not Porsches trying to kill us at the track...

Just keep in mind that the oem seat has an airbag. You are losing that protection when going to a race seat.
For that reason I kind of like the idea of a e46 M3 with half cage and race seat and harness. The air bag is in the door. But now that I think about it you're still compromised on the street. Harness with no hans no helmet.
