Track day with GotTrackLi.
Forecast dry
came with RR on the rear and R888R on the front.
Drizzled all day.
Tons of laps but all at the 1:49-1:51 range

Here is an oops, one of few

What software are you using to overlay the data onto the video?

AiM's SmartyCam works with the data logger
The data is fed into the camera in real time.

The SmartyCam receives the data from another AIM device like a Solo or an AIM dash and then overlays it in real-time while recording the video. So when you pull the SD card out of the camera and watch the video, the day is already overlaid on there. If you’re looking for convenience in data overlay onto video, the Smarty Cam is tough to beat.

The “look” of the SmartyCam gauges is very identifiable. And up until now, you can’t really customize the look much. You can move things around, but the gauges are basically a set look. So if you want a custom look on your video, the SmartyCam cannot give you that.

I was reviewing the AiM data from the 1:40 lap times and the two most significant turns where I lose time are Turn 3 (right) and turn 6 (left)

I just can't add any gas there. I tried steering with the throttle, or lifting to rotate the rear. While it helped, the turn is too long and neither gave me enough turning advantage.

There are 1/2 seconds in other turns like 8-9-10 sequence and end of turn 12

3 and 6 are long turns that I just wait forever. There is at least 1 second in each turn.

So, what's the plan?

1. First, I will try to time it so I can come to the next NYST with a fresh RR on the front. Will see what it does. Being it 235/35/19 it is on the narrow side

2. I am looking at the 245/35/19 options. I can do Cap 2 or Trofoe R.

The theory would be that if the cap 2 or the Trofoe R are close to the RR, then the 245 can help.

The rears are happy with the RR 295/30/19 so that would stay constant.

I tried the 265/30/19 Trofoe R two years ago with stock camber and stock suspension. It was eaten up (outside wall) with not much benefit.

My next track day is Lime Rock open track for 4 hours. I am going into that one with fresh RR set. I have limited experience at Lime Rock so it will be hard to draw conclusions.

When the rubber meet the road:

I got curious, what tire has more rubber on the road, The Kumho PS91 275/30/19 or the Proxes RR 235/35/19?

So I measured.

PS91 275/30/19
265mm on the road
minus the water channels 20+18+20+5+5+ (5 space between the blocks) = 73mm of air.

Total rubber on the road = 265-73= 192mm

Mich Cap 2 265/35/20
260mm - 15 -15 -15 - 5 = 210mm

R888R 235/35/19
235 - 15 -18 -12 = 190mm

Proxes RR 235/35/19
235mm - 6mm - 6mm = 223mm of rubber

Lime Rock Park with LRDC
97 laps
many 1:02
best 1:01.75 (getting to be scary)
Still MDM on. (DSC on)
After the DSC light was on most of the laps, I disabled the DSC but was only able to get into the 1:02s
Brake alarm is set to 800 PSI. Low on purpose.
Deliberately using high gears to learn momentum and conserve fuel. Mostly using 5th.

is the 5th gear momentum thing something a driving coach told you to do? seems odd.

i bet you can take that turn one braking zone quite a bit deeper. i bet you could be at full throttle for about a second longer from where you start to apply the brakes.

Yes. I know.
But at this pace, it is very scary and I do not do scary.

I have to adapt and feel comfortable at the situation and then do the next pace. I underestimated how fast is 60 seconds.

I did work with a coach for 10 laps later in the day. I learned few things that I can take to NYST:

1. In general, I was not going the extra few inches to the edge of the track before a turn. So need to work in that.

2. Release the brake more gradually. This is something I know I release too abruptly , and actively working on it. On the street on my daily as well. It was good to be told when I did it right.

3. Rotating the rear by lifting. This would be helpful at NYST. He had me on the throttle mid corner so I can lift toward the end of the corner and rotate the rear. So rather than wait with the gas until end of the turn (knowing I am understeering) he had me go a bit more than maintenance throttle, lift, on the gas 10%,20%,30%, 100%

4. To practice 100% throttle with DSC off, I rather do it in 5th, then 4th

5. Luckily, my driving is work in progress and I can see it not being perfect in the next 20 years. It would have be a big disappointment to get it 100% right on my third year.

whats scary? braking hard? what about it bothers you there? there appears to be enough track that if you miss the braking zone and are going too fast for the corner, you could still hit the turn, but just botch it with a terrible line and still stay on track.

Not the braking hard part,
the "not braking hard " part

Hey, not bad my friend. Not bad at all
I see you made a huge improvement.
If I remember correctly we were in the advanced run group last year at LRP with scca track night and I see a huge difference in your driving.
Now driving at LRP is not scary imo, scary part is when you are facing the wall at almost 120mph (T6) right before the braking zone and taking 90 degree corner without braking at all at more than 90mph (T10) at Watkins glen.
You should definitely try that one soon.
