OEM Exhaust Mod w/Modified OEM Tips + Ceramic Coating

So ever since purchasing my car I have been wanting a little more grunt over my OEM muffler with MS test pipes. I was looking for something more subtle and didn't want to overdo it. I simply couldn't justify purchasing one of the many ultra expensive aftermarket exhausts for very minimal power gains, if any at all, and have the exhaust be too loud for my liking. After doing a lot of reading and video watching I decided the OEM exhaust mod was probably my best bet. I found one already done on the forum and unfortunately paid for shipping almost across the country.

In the meantime I knew I also wanted more aggressive exhaust tips and decided upon the EAS tips but again couldn't get myself to pull the trigger based on price and size (I was feeling like they were just too big in diameter for me personally). I stumbled upon a thread regarding the modification of E92 tips for fitment on the E90 to convert the tip to a single walled tip. I found set of tips and with the help of the fab shop at work cut the tips to size.

I took the tips to be coated and at the last minute decided to just go ahead and have the muffler ceramic coated as well to match. The previous owner spray painted the muffler with high temp paint and I was really looking for something more polished so I opted for coating. I think everything turned out excellent and the exhaust and tips look stellar. For me personally the OEM exhaust tip diameter is on point and when modifying them to be single walled they look even bigger and aftermarket.

And then there is the fun part of the story...I installed the OEM exhaust modded exhaust (having MS test pipes currently installed) and it is ungodly loud. I mean, wow! I was hoping for maybe 25-50% in increased sound over the test pipes and OEM muffler. I would estimate that I got 100-150% louder than with test pipes alone. While it sounds amazing I just can't bring myself to run that everyday. So after all that hard work I'm going to have to pull off the exhaust, remove my new tips, sell the coated OEM exhaust mod muffler, cut open my other muffler and delete only partial perforated pipes, weld it back up, have it ceramic coated, install my new tips, and put it back on the car.

Sheesh, the stupid things we do for our cars to make them "perfect".

Yes, the car is dirty as hell. If anyone wants a coated OEM exhaust mod muffler, I've got one.

Dang sorry to hear.

The only difference between E90 muffler and E92 is the tip length correct?

Looks great though! I'm going to look for it now, but any chance you could link to the tip modification instructions you saw? (Never mind...found it...http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...ht=tip...seems easy enough!)

I'm confused. How did you get single walled E92 tips?
